Registered Nurse – Cardiovascular Operating Room (Travel)
Location: Belleville, IL Job Type: Travel Contract Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 4×10 Days (0645–1715) Pay: $2,572/week Completion Bonus: $2,500 per contract (up to $7,500 after three contracts)
Position Overview We are seeking a highly experienced Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) RN for a travel assignment in a high-acuity cardiac surgical program. The CVOR RN will independently scrub and circulate cardiac/open-heart procedures and support additional OR service lines as needed. Candidates must be able to quickly become independent with surgeon preferences and perform in a fast-paced hybrid OR environment.
This role requires participation in a structured call rotation and flexibility to float between Belleville and the nearby East/Shiloh campus.
Key Responsibilities
Function independently as primary scrub for open-heart and cardiovascular cases
Circulate CVOR and hybrid OR procedures as needed
Assist with cardiac surgery, including CABG, valve procedures, TAVR, thoracic, and vascular cases
Support additional surgical specialties when no cardiac cases are scheduled (ENT, ortho, neuro-spine, robotics, vascular, thoracic, plastics, urology, general surgery)
Prepare OR suite and maintain sterile technique and equipment
Collaborate with cardiac surgery teams, anesthesia, perfusion, and support staff
Respond to emergent cardiac cases and rapid activations
Participate in required call rotation:
Weeknights: 1715–0630
Weekends: 0630–0630 (Sat or Sun)
Float between Belleville and East/Shiloh campuses as needed (bellville primary, call at Belleville only)
Document procedures in EPIC
Qualifications
Active Illinois RN license (required at submission; IL is not compact)
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
Minimum 2 years recent CVOR experience (required)
Independent primary CVOR scrub ability required
Competent in both scrub and circulate roles (strong preference for combo skill)
Experience with high-acuity cardiac procedures, including:
CABG
Valve surgery
TAVR
Thoracic & vascular procedures
IABP & cardiac assist devices
Hybrid endovascular procedures
Additional OR specialty experience preferred (neuro-spine, ortho, robotics, ENT, vascular)
Certifications:
BLS required
ACLS preferred
EPIC experience required
Must participate in call rotation (4–5 weeknights + 2–3 weekends per 6-week period)
No local candidates within 75 miles
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and recent tuberculosis test required.
