Position Overview
The IMC (Intermediate Care) Float Pool Registered Nurse will provide care to a diverse patient population across Med/Surg Telemetry and IMC/Stepdown units. Nurses must demonstrate clinical competence in caring for patients with complex medical and cardiac conditions, including respiratory distress, cardiac events, and post-critical care transitions. This position requires strong assessment, monitoring, and communication skills while adapting to different unit settings. Float nurses must be comfortable managing 1:4–1:6 patient ratios and capable of floating between IMC, MS, Observation, Trauma Surgical, Stroke, Palliative, Renal, and other medical units as needed.
Epic experience is strictly required.
Requirements
Licensure: Active RN License – Compact or MD License Required Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent IMC/PCU/Stepdown experience – Required Travel Experience: Required (First-time travelers not accepted) Patient Ratio Experience: Comfortable managing 1:4–1:6 ratios Teaching Hospital Experience: Preferred Previous Charge Experience: Preferred Certifications
BLS (AHA) – Required ACLS (AHA) – Required NIHSS – Required Charting System
Epic – Required (Recent experience mandatory) Core Skills & Competencies
Critical Care & IMC Skills Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation Management of cardiac and vasoactive drips (titration required) Central, arterial, and peripheral line care Blood product administration Ventilator and tracheostomy management Chest tube care (Emerson/PleurEvac systems) High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) and CPAP/BiPAP management Post-cardiac catheterization and TR Band management Management of insulin and heparin drips Rapid response and Code Blue participation Neurological & Medical Post-stroke and post-neurosurgical care Seizure management Traumatic brain injury and intracranial bleed care Substance withdrawal management Additional Patient Care Skills Feeding tube, TPN, and PCA management Wound care and isolation precautions Renal and endocrine management, including pre/post dialysis Care of post-surgical, cardiac, and multi-trauma patients Other Skills
Strong clinical judgment in high-acuity settings Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams Excellent patient and family communication Adaptability to multiple units and varying patient populations Facility & Unit Details
Unit: Float Pool – IMC/MS/Telemetry Patient Age Groups: Adults, Geriatrics Float Requirement: Yes – Float to IMC, MS, Observation, Trauma Surgical, Stroke, Renal, and related units Interdisciplinary Support: IV Teams, Respiratory, Physical Therapy, Radiology, Pharmacy, Social Services, Rapid Response Team Equipment Commonly Used: Ventilators, Chest Tubes, PICC Lines, NG Tubes, PCA/PCEA Pumps, Miami J & Aspen Collars
