About The Amesbury Community Amesbury is a small city on the north shore of Massachusetts. Bordering southern New Hampshire and situated at the junction of I-95 and I-495, Amesbury offers easy access to larger metropolitan areas such as Boston, Portsmouth, NH, and Portland, ME. Amesbury is a tight-knit, hard-working, and growing community. Incorporated in 1668, the city’s history is an important part of what makes its community a special place to live, work, and play. The city’s leadership is committed to maintaining historic charm and open spaces, while also supporting smart development to help the community grow. Historic mill buildings in the downtown area were once home to the country’s leading carriage and automobile manufacturers, and are where new restaurants, offices, shops, artist studios, and the site of the new Industrial History Center now reside. Amesbury has 1000+ acres of open space and more than 20 miles of trails, paths and cycleways, along with lakes and rivers for outdoor recreation year-round.
About Amesbury Public Schools Amesbury Public Schools is led by a seven-member School Committee and serves 1,819 students in five schools: Sergeant Jordan Shay Memorial Lower Elementary School: PreK – 2; Cashman Elementary School: 3 – 5; Amesbury Middle School: 6 – 8; Amesbury Innovation High School: 9 – 12; Amesbury High School: 9 – 12.

Minimum Qualifications
Licensed or eligible for licensure as a superintendent of schools in Massachusetts
Master’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
Minimum of 10 years in education, including teaching, central office and/or administrative experience
Selected Responsibilities
Ability to develop and direct an effective administrative leadership team
Communication style and leadership skills that are dynamic, visible, accessible and inclusive
Demonstrated experience and success in innovative problem‑solving and strategic planning, budget development, and capital planning
Proven ability to productively engage stakeholders and build consensus
Established expertise in change implementation, management, and continuous improvement
Compensation and Benefits The Amesbury School Committee is prepared to offer a multi-year contract with a regionally competitive annual salary (in the range of $190,000-$205,000) and a negotiable fringe benefits package to a future‑focused leader with exceptional credentials, accomplishments, and promise.
