Base pay range $150,000.00/yr - $200,000.00/yr
About Our Client Our client is a leading food events and hospitality company based in San Francisco, known for creating large-scale community dining experiences and culinary partnerships.
Position Overview We’re seeking an Interim Controller to lead accounting operations and financial management during a period of transition and growth. This role requires onsite presence in San Francisco three days per week and carries conversion potential; accordingly, candidates must be willing to transition into a full‑time permanent role.
Responsibilities
Lead all daily accounting operations—including the general ledger, month‑end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting—with a strong emphasis on accuracy, timeliness, and strengthening the close calendar.
Own and optimize the month‑end close process, with a mandate to streamline workflows, shorten close timelines, and fully leverage NetSuite functionality to improve efficiency, reporting integrity, and automation.
Provide hands‑on leadership to accounting team members, fostering development, accountability, and operational excellence.
Oversee preparation, review, and delivery of financial statements and management reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP, offering insights and actionable recommendations to senior leadership.
Manage cash flow, short‑term forecasting, and liquidity planning across multiple event‑based and catering business units.
Strengthen internal controls, vendor management, and accounting workflows while enhancing the use of ERP, reporting tools, and financial systems.
Collaborate cross‑functionally with operations, events, culinary, and executive leadership to ensure alignment between financial results and business objectives.
Serve as a stabilizing force during a period of organizational transition, ensuring continuity of processes, documentation of workflows, and effective knowledge transfer.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred.
10–12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership at the Controller or Assistant Controller level.
Extensive NetSuite experience is required, including hands‑on use, optimization, reporting, and the ability to drive improved utilization of system capabilities.
Demonstrated success leading and accelerating monthly close processes, improving workflow efficiency, and strengthening financial controls.
Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and operational accounting best practices.
Advanced proficiency with ERP systems, financial reporting tools, and Excel, with a track record of identifying and implementing process improvements.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
