Job Description

Phlebotomy experience strongly preferred.

Functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team to organize and provide quality patient care services under the supervision of a licensed professional. Proactively supports the efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promotes a safe environment at Children’s.

Experience

Minimum 1 year of clinical experience required

Preferred Qualifications

3 years pediatric health care experience

Certification as a Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician with pediatric or hospital experience, OR be a Registered Nursing Student who has successfully completed one clinical rotation, OR have at least one (1) year of previous clinical healthcare experience

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Certification Summary

Competencies as defined by the department must be completed within six (6) months of hire

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) is required within 30 days of employment

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills required

Demonstrated leadership abilities and documentation of ongoing development and training

Job Responsibilities

Assists in the basic delivery of patient care as assigned by licensed professional personnel using age and developmentally appropriate standards to include vital sign assessment, patient triage, daily weights, assisting with feeds/baths/oral care, linen changes, and assisting with transports.

Demonstrates competency in phlebotomy skills or proficiency within first six months of hire.

Utilizes and maintains department and patient care equipment as assigned.

Communicates information relating to patient care job activities, needs and responsibilities for the assigned shift to appropriate personnel. Utilizes effective organization and communication skills in prioritizing, delivering, and documenting patient care, and documents the tasks/procedure/care that is provided.

Initiates and participates in continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and services provided.

Acts as a role model for organizational and developmental skills.

Assists departmental leadership team in the development of other staff members.

Accepts responsibility for own growth, development, and professional conduct.

While clinical staff may serve a specific patient population, they have the potential to care for patients within the age population range served at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Clinical staff will have competencies that will incorporate age specific guidelines. This age population includes N = Neonate (less than 30 days), I = Infant (30 days to 1 year), EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years), LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years), A = Adolescent (13-17 years), AD = Adult.

Engages in activities or duties within the organization and department to advance and maintain to a Care Partner 2 as described by Care Partner Advancement Program.
