Validation Specialist
– on‑site in Palo Alto, California, who will represent the voice of clinical users and patients from a radiation therapist/medical dosimetrist perspective. You will help identify workflow bottlenecks, missed opportunities, and critical safety features, and work with Product Management, User Experience and Design Engineering teams to ensure our medical devices meet design and intended‑use requirements.
What You Will Do
Ensure that validation is complete and that Varian’s products are safe, effective, and meet the user’s intended use, with good objective test evidence prior to release.
Evaluate and discuss clinical practices, treatment techniques, and clinical process optimizations with Product Management, User Experience, and Design Engineering teams to define new product requirements.
Provide continuous feedback and implement improvements to the design, development, and modification of radiation and oncology products and systems.
Support development and maintenance of Varian products, including Oncology Information Systems, Treatment Planning Management Systems, and Treatment Delivery and Imaging Systems.
Define strategy for assuring thorough design validation of new products to demonstrate that they meet design and intended use requirements.
Develop, modify, and execute design validation plans to meet product and system requirements.
Participate in requirements analysis, use case development, and risk hazard analysis.
Analyze and write test designs and procedures, establishing traceability to requirements and risk mitigations.
In addition to exploratory testing, consult with Product Verification Engineers, Product Marketing, User Experience, and Project Management to resolve usability, requirements, software, and scope problems.
Work as part of a global development team and travel globally (5–25%) to support Varian’s validation efforts.
What You Will Have
Education and experience: one of the following
Current clinical certification/registration as a Radiation Therapist plus five (5) years of Radiation Oncology clinical experience as a Radiation Therapist.
Degree (B.A., B.S., or its foreign degree equivalent) plus five (5) years of Radiation Oncology clinical experience as a Radiation Therapist and/or Clinical Applications Specialist using Varian’s products.
Thorough understanding of simulation, imaging, and treatment delivery clinical workflow scenarios in a radiation therapy center, including proficiency with:
Treatment delivery using a variety of techniques including IMRT and VMAT.
Performing stereotactic radiosurgeries for brain (SRS) & lung (SBRT) treatments.
Knowledge of radiation safety practices and safe handling of ionizing radiation equipment.

Current clinical certification/registration as a Radiation Therapist and clinical experience as a Medical Dosimetrist.
Proficient and efficient use of Varian products:
ARIA Radiation Therapy Management software applications.
Linear accelerators such as the C‑Series, TrueBeam, and/or Halcyon.
Experience with motion management technologies such as Varian RPM, RGSC, or optical surface tracking with products such as IDENTIFY.
Basic knowledge of ARIA Oncology Information System for Radiation Oncology and Eclipse Treatment Planning System software applications.

The Base Pay Range For This Position Is Min $139,180 – Max $208,780
Factors affecting starting pay include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications.
