What to Expect
As a Process Engineer for Site Survey (also known as Site Audit) within the Business Process Engineering Team at Tesla, you will lead the development and maintenance of the site survey process. This critical role involves overseeing the process where Tesla representatives visit prospective customers' homes to collect vital data such as site measurements, electrical setups, roof conditions, and utility details, enabling the creation of customized energy system designs. You will monitor key performance indicators, identify improvement opportunities, develop corrective action plans, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize workflows. Your efforts will drive reduced costs, ensure high-quality products, and enhance customer satisfaction on their journey toward energy independence.
This role is open to all Residential Direct Energy installation offices or Resi Direct HQ offices (e.g. Palo Alto, Draper).
What You’ll Do
Track site survey performance metrics, prioritize top issues, and drive continuous improvement activities with cross‑functional teams
Create process maps and models to inform rigorous process simulations and identify bottlenecks
Conduct process studies and analyze productivity metrics to quantify ideal versus actual site survey performance and recommend data‑backed enhancements
Evaluate site survey process trends, collaborating with stakeholders to mitigate risks and improve outcomes
Work closely with the site survey team to set, meet, and monitor key performance indicators such as completion time, accuracy rates, and customer satisfaction scores
Address immediate project needs, such as optimizing the site survey workflow for rooftop solar installations in high‑volume regions to reduce average visit times by 20%
What You’ll Bring
Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical), other technical discipline, or equivalent experience
3-5 years of experience as a quality engineer, process engineer, or equivalent in an operations environment with a proven focus on process optimization
Knowledge of energy system design requirements, familiarity with electrical codes (e.g., NEC), and understanding of construction/roofing techniques
Strong understanding of the relationship between site survey and energy system design, approval processes (permit/inspection/interconnection), and installation practices
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with quality teams and cross‑functional stakeholders
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with experience in statistical analysis and process simulation software (e.g., Arena or similar); familiarity with basic SQL is a plus

Expected Compensation $84,000 - $150,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
