With more than two hundred faculty members in thirteen departments, the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences offers general education and upper‑level classes to undergraduates and graduate education to a select group of students who have met its rigorous admissions standards. The school has a tradition of offering personal and individual attention to students at both the undergraduate and the graduate level.

Responsibilities

Develop orientation programs to engage and retain students.

Provide student advising to Weissman graduate students; may provide career and transfer services and/or specialized program counseling.

Provide international‑student specific advisement.

Collaborate with other academic and administrative offices to maintain a comprehensive new‑student enrollment academic advisement program.

Instruct students, faculty and staff on the use of advising technologies.

Provide information to students regarding student support services, college policies and program procedures.

Monitor students’ performances and take appropriate action when necessary; resolve students’ problems regarding curricular requirements; develop academic plans and perform graduation audits.

Maintain data and serve as staff point of contact for student appeals and changes of program; provide administrative support to the Weissman Graduate Affairs Committee.

Participate in operations of Graduate Studies, including delivering and assessing student services and special events such as Office of Graduate Studies yield events, Career Services events, and orientation.

Maintain data and generate communications (web, email, social media, etc.) to students on matters related to registration and academic advising.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and four years’ related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree is preferred.

Experience in higher education, particularly with graduate students.

Proven ability to manage multiple time‑sensitive responsibilities with careful attention to detail.

Strong oral and written communication skills and knowledge of Microsoft applications.

Experience with social media platforms and web‑based communications and resources.

Availability for evenings until 6 pm; some late evenings, weekend hours, and travel may be required.

CUNY Title Overview

Provides expert and/or specialized academic counseling to a diverse student population.

Offers comprehensive advisement to full‑time and part‑time students.

Works with other academic affairs staff as well as enrollment and student affairs to assist students to declare majors and select appropriate courses.

Monitors students’ performances and takes appropriate action when necessary; resolves students’ problems regarding curricular requirements.

Develops academic plans and performs graduation audits.

Provides information to students regarding student support services, college policies and program procedures and guidelines.

Facilitates workshops; assists with other department activities such as course scheduling.

Establishes and maintains student advisement files; prepares activity reports and analyses.

May supervise extramural activities, such as internships and community service; may assist with accreditation efforts as needed.

May provide career and transfer services and/or specialized program counseling.

May supervise junior advising and/or clerical staff.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits $74,490 – $86,741; salary commensurate with education and experience. CUNY’s benefits include health plans, retirement/pension benefits and savings plans, tuition waivers for CUNY graduate study, and generous paid time off, among others.
