Overview
The Manufacturing Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all production activities at the manufacturing site, leading a team of supervisors to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective operations. This role ensures that finished products are manufactured in compliance with legal, technical, budgetary, and customer requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, communication, and technical skills, with a demonstrated ability to leverage advanced demand planning technologies. This position oversees a workforce of 100+ employees and serves as the acting Director of Operations during their absence.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all aspects of production operations, ensuring efficiency, cost control, safety, sanitation, timely delivery, and adherence to budget. Maintain equipment performance and collaborate on preventive maintenance planning. Develop and manage production schedules, capital budgets, departmental goals, and KPIs aligned with organizational objectives. Generate and analyze reports to monitor and improve production performance. Supervise and support a team of supervisors and hourly staff. Actively participate in the local leadership and safety teams. Foster a positive work environment through effective communication, coaching, and employee development. Conduct team meetings to align staff with company goals and initiatives. Ensure compliance with company standards in cost control, waste reduction, quality, OSHA regulations, and on-time delivery. Assess and plan production staffing needs. Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager on capital investment projects. Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the production floor. Adhere to and enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), safety protocols, food safety standards, environmental guidelines, and sanitation procedures. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Competencies
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role within a manufacturing environment; experience in warehousing and distribution is a plus.
Skills & Competencies
Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Proficiency in continuous improvement methodologies and lean manufacturing principles. Flexibility to work various shifts as needed. Experience with ERP systems is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with asset management systems and principles is desirable.
