Job Summary The Senior GL Accountant is a generalist accounting role responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures in analyzing financial information, preparing accurate and timely financial reports; ensuring appropriate accounting control procedures, and executing routine and recurring complex accounting functions for assigned operation divisions with diverse operations and accounting requirements. Primary Objectives Timely, accurate, and complete recording of all relevant transactions for assigned divisions. Collection, maintenance, organization and appropriate
distribution/storage
of all supporting documentation, schedules, and reporting as required by corporate policy and department procedure. Timely audit, review, and analysis of financial transactions. Accurate variance reporting with well-supported analysis and explanation. Duties and Responsibilities Perform recurring routine and moderately complex accounting functions. Work with assigned business unit operations teams to understand, evaluate, and properly record revenue and expense data. Prepare and post journal entries, including invoices, accruals, and cash transactions. Coordinate and complete month-end close process. Review and verify accuracy of account balances and classifications. Analyze changes in account balances and make recommendations to correct errors as appropriate. Maintain supporting schedules and reports related to amortization, accruals, pre-paid and related recurring accounting activities. Identify process and control improvement opportunities, make recommendations, and partner with managers to implement the appropriate modifications. Recommend and participate in development of financial analysis and reporting processes for new and existing functional areas, leveraging existing and anticipated operational systems. Execute and maintain a variety of financial reports to communicate results, trends, and issues, incorporating statistical and ratio analysis as well as other necessary management accounting review. Work with management to identify implications of evolving priorities, managing and clearly communicating deadline risks as new tasks and projects arise. Train and cross-train accounting staff on relevant duties and processes to ensure business continuity and coverage of critical functions. Function as lead for employees performing similar duties. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and coursework required. Coursework in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Business Administration strongly preferred. Licenses
CPA or equivalent. Work Experience
5+ years of accounting experience required, preferably in high volume environments with multiple business lines. Experience in transportation, maritime, automotive, manufacturing, or supply chain accounting practices is preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision. Strong knowledge of GAAP. Ability to interpret operational data and apply accounting principles accurately. Strong analytical skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Organizational and time management skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Detailed industry-specific accounting knowledge and best practices. Proficiency with ERP systems such as MAS500. Competencies
