We are currently searching for an experienced
Traffic Design Engineer
to support our
Southeast Region
located in
Miami or Fort Lauderdale, FL . To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. What you’ll be doing:
Prepare technical reports for traffic impact studies, interchange access requests, or safety studies. Manage the development of traffic impact studies, land use planning, master plan studies, traffic signal warrant studies, bikeway planning and design, community and campus planning, and technical report writing. Design traffic signal plans for new intersections and signal modifications to facilitate multimodal accommodations. Develop temporary traffic control plans/traffic management plans (TMP), signing, and pavement marking plans. Create Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) design plans. Assist in preparing conceptual intersection layouts, schematics, signal timings, and engineering reports. Supervise and mentor junior engineers. Attend project meetings with clients. Manage project budgets to meet financial metrics. Engage in business development activities. What you need to have:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. 3 - 6 years of traffic engineering experience. Florida PE license is required. PTOE certification is preferred. Membership and involvement in transportation industry organizations such as WTS, ASCE, and ITE are beneficial. Knowledge of transportation planning, including corridor analysis, DOT programs, safety, pedestrian and bicycle planning, and multimodal planning. Familiarity with MicroStation, AutoCAD (OpenRoads/InRoads), DOT standards, MUTCD, and AASHTO. Proficiency in traffic analysis software such as VISSIM, Synchro/SimTraffic, Sidra Intersection, HCS. Self-starter with minimal oversight required. Effective communication skills, both oral and written. Willingness to develop and maintain client relationships. Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory MVR. Why Volkert?
