Job Title: Scientist I, Biobank

Company:

SRT Therapeutics

About the Company

SRT Therapeutics is a San Diego-based biotech company established in 2024 by the founders of Prometheus Biosciences, Steph Targan, MD (Cedars Sinai), Janine Bilsborough, Ph.D. (Cedars Sinai), the scientific team that discovered Tulisokibart (MK7240) and the role of TL1A in IBD and Scott Glenn and Lauren Otsuki, the drug development team that took Tulisokibart (MK7240) from academia into the clinic. Building on the demonstrated success of the precision medicine approach in IBD with Tulisokibart, SRT Therapeutics will expand this approach by targeting key pathways that not only modulate inflammatory pathways, but also promote tissue healing in IBD. This strategy will move SRT Therapeutics beyond the current empirical treatment model to realize the goal of enhancing both outcomes and the quality of care for our patients.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist I to join our biobanking team. Your primary goal is to provide technical and logistical support to our biobanking efforts, the foundation of our precision medicine approach. You will be responsible for maintaining the quality and integrity of the biobank, as well as developing and scaling genomic and molecular assays to characterize biobank specimens including blood, saliva, and tissue, including precious clinical samples. You will also be responsible for sample management, including chain of custody, CRO communications, sample processing SOPs, LIMS, and off-site backup management. You will collaborate closely with functional biomarker and computational biology teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee the end-to-end management of biospecimens, including collection, receipt, processing, and secure preservation.

Implement and meticulously follow protocols to ensure the long-term integrity and quality of all biospecimens, managing logistics and monitoring storage conditions.

Accurately accession all incoming samples and associated data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Maintain a real-time, auditable inventory of all banked specimens.

Ensure the precise and error-free linkage of all sample data with corresponding clinical, phenotypic, and genomic datasets.

Process biospecimens including centrifugation, aliquoting, PBMC isolation, whole slide imaging.

Perform essential molecular biology workflows, including DNA/RNA extraction, sample quantification, quality control (QC) checks, and genomic library generation.

Develop, optimize, and scale genomic data workflows including RNAseq, scRNAseq, WGS, and others.

Actively contribute to the development, review, and revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for biobanking, sample processing, and sample management.

Serve as a key point of contact for the biobank, collaborating closely with clinical operations, research, and computational biology teams to support corporate goals.

Liaise with external collection sites and CROs to ensure protocols are followed correctly and sample quality is maintained.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience

Required:

PhD or equivalent experience in genomics or a related field.

1-3 years’ experience in biobank operations or management

Biobank management including chain of custody, LIMS, sample, data, and inventory tracking, sample labeling and storage, and quality control

SOP establishment, review, and management

Human biospecimen sample processing and QC including blood, tissue, and precious clinical samples

Genomic assay development, optimization, QC, and scaling (RNAseq, scRNAseq, SNP arrays, WGS, etc)

Molecular assay development and optimization (PCR, dd/RT-qPCR, electrophoresis)

Genomics and biospecimen CRO management

Proven ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed team.

Preferred (Nice to Have):

Experience with flow cytometry assays and assay development

Histology including H&E staining and whole slide scanning
