Staff Nurse - Emergency Room (Mount Sinai Morningside)
Job Overview Responsible for the care activities and goal achievements of assigned patients by assessing, diagnosing, planning and intervening in actual or potential health problems and evaluating patient response to care. Provides health teaching and discharge planning. Acts as a member of a designated care team, collaborates, coordinates and guides team members in planning patient care activities. Demonstrates scientific knowledge, judgment and teaching skills expected of a professional nurse.
Responsibilities
Provide safe, competent, quality care based on nursing theory and research to Emergency Room patients.
Perform nursing assessment based on interview, examination, observation and review of patient records.
Develop goal‑oriented care plan based on assessment, with participation of patient and significant others.
Perform nursing actions consistent with the care plan, medical regimen and hospital procedures.
Demonstrate a competent level of technical skill reflecting scientific knowledge, judgment and professional nursing skills.
Assist in development, implementation and evaluation of standards of care and professional practice with the health care team, in accordance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate patient care activities, including teaching, rounding, counseling, discharge planning, and direct or delegate responsibilities appropriately to team members.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing preferred.
Documented previous experience or educational preparation supporting credentials; relevant clinical competence in nursing practice; special skills/experience may be required in specialized areas.
Registered Nurse License and current registration in New York State.
BCLS/ACLS/PALS certification required.
Minimum 2 years RN experience with prior emergency and/or critical care experience in a hospital setting, including critical thinking, certification and EKG skills.
Special skills required in the Emergency Room: remote telemetry; interpretation and treatment of arrhythmias per ACLS protocols; intervene in cardiac arrest; pain management; management of all categories of diseases; administration of IV antiarrhythmic drugs; EKG interpretation; IV therapy; IV/Phlebotomy; remote telemetry; triage experience; and ability to work well in a stressful environment.
Compensation Salary range: $55,352 – $61,829.70 hourly. Actual salary depends on experience, education, and operational need. Salary does not include bonuses, incentives, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
