General Purpose The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership team responsible for a specific, assigned area of the Store and for general operations when acting as Manager on Duty. Duties include opening and closing the Store, supervising Associates, ensuring a friendly shopping environment, maintaining merchandise presentation, and executing company operational processes.
Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
Safety is the number one priority; practice safe behaviors at all times.
Maintain high awareness on the sales floor and report or correct unsafe conditions immediately.
Secure the building, including entrance/exit control, EAS devices, cash office, and armored carrier pick‑ups.
Remove clutter and ensure clear egress to emergency exits.
Ensure customer safety through accident prevention, reporting, and emergency procedures.
Test all fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.
Customer Service
Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times and recognize Associates via company programs.
Personal and Store Brand
Represent and support the company brand at all times.
Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the dress code and ensure all Associates do the same.
Keep all store areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.
Responsible for daily trash removal.
General Merchandising
Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet company standards through instruction and follow‑up.
Responsible for receiving merchandise trucks when needed.
Process all merchandise with urgency.
Handle all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of stockrooms.
Assist in placing merchandise on the sales floor after processing.
Secure and process any back‑stock according to company policy.
Manage department merchandising, including back‑stock.
Minimize loss due to damage.
Ensure compliance with monthly presentation guidelines in the assigned area.
Execute floor moves, signing, and promotional signing as needed.
Perform re‑wraps as required.
Loss Prevention
Comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintain a strong customer service presence on‑floor.
Demonstrate integrity, honesty, and confidentiality with associates and customers.
Maintain the Public View Monitor system.
Conduct “Code 50” package inspections.
Execute best practices to maximize productivity by reducing steps and touches.
Front End Supervision and Operations
Maintain standards at the front end and maximize productivity.
Manage line pace and presence to expedite customer wait times.
Train and coach associates on registers, shortage control, and front‑end procedures.
Control associate break schedules for backups, lunches, and breaks.
Ensure all equipment is working properly.
Maintain proper supplies and recovery for the front end.
Expedite go‑backs and ensure proper scanning, tagging, and ticketing.
Teach associates the “Scan and Bag” best practice.
Ensure salability of merchandise on the front end, aisle tables, and specialty racks.
Fitting Rooms
Maintain cleanliness of fitting rooms.
Audit and account for fitting room tags according to policy.
Ensure go‑back compliance and proper tagging, scanning, and ticketing of returned goods.
Administrative Duties as Assigned by Store Manager
Conduct cash pulls and bank deposits following policy.
Assume front end control when needed, adhering to refund, purchase, and register policies.
Administer payroll tasks such as punch edits, scheduling compliance, payroll transmission, and reporting.
Complete other duties as assigned by the Store Manager.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required
Excellent verbal communication skills.
Fluency in English.
Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications.
Basic mathematical calculation skills common in retail.
Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements / ADA
Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs.
Stand, walk, and move around the store up to 100% of working time.
Regularly bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other supplies.
Stockroom shifts may require pushing, pulling, and lifting more than 20 lbs.
