General Purpose The Area Supervisor is a member of Store Leadership responsible for a specific, assigned area of the store and for general operations when serving as Manager on Duty. Duties include opening and closing the store, supervising Associates, maintaining a friendly shop environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and executing company operational processes.
Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
Practice safe behaviors and maintain high awareness on the sales floor.
Secure building entrances/exits, monitor EAS devices, and protect cash office and armored carrier pick‑ups.
Immediately correct or report unsafe conditions, remove clutter, and ensure clear egress to emergency exits.
Support customer safety through accident prevention, reporting, and emergency procedures; test fire alarm systems as scheduled.
Customer Service
Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect, courtesy, and professionalism.
Recognize associates using company recognition programs.
Personal and Store Brand
Represent and support the Ross brand at all times.
Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the dress code and ensure associates do the same.
Keep all store areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard; manage daily trash removal.
General Merchandising
Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet company standards through instruction, task assignment, and follow‑up.
Receive merchandise trucks when needed and process all merchandise with urgency.
Handle non‑merchandise inbound deliveries and maintain stockroom cleanliness and organization.
Assist in floor moves, promotional signing, and back‑stock processing.
Apply loss‑prevention practices to reduce damage and loss.
Comply with monthly presentation guidelines and sign‑out procedures.
Loss Prevention
Maintain a strong customer service presence on the sales floor and engage associates.
Safeguard confidential information, cash, credit card data, and merchandise.
Maintain the Public View Monitor (PVM) system and conduct “Code 50” package inspections.
Execute company best practices to minimize steps and touches.
Front‑End Supervision and Operations
Ensure associates follow company front‑end standards.
Manage line flow to expedite customer wait times.
Coach associates on cash registers, shortage control, and other front‑end procedures.
Control associate break schedules for backups, lunch, and breaks.
Maintain equipment, supplies, and front‑end recovery.
Expedite go‑backs, ensuring items are scanned, tagged, and ticketed.
Teach the “Scan and Bag” best practice to all associates.
Promote salability of merchandise and specialty racks.
Fitting Rooms
Maintain cleaning and upkeep of fitting rooms.
Audit garment tags to ensure compliance.
Guarantee go‑back compliance with scanning, tagging, and ticketing.
Administrative Duties (as assigned by Store Manager)
Conduct cash pulls and bank deposits per policy.
Handle front‑end controls, refunds, approvals, and register procedures.
Administer payroll, scheduling, and reporting as required.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Excellent verbal communication skills.
Fluency in English.

Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications.
Basic mathematical skills for retail environments.
Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements / ADA
Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs.
Stand, walk, and move around the store up to 100% of working time.
Regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.; stockroom shifts may require more than 20 lbs.
Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other supplies.
