Our client, a high functioning established Law Firm, is seeking a highly qualified Director of Finance to add to their team. The Director of Finance is a senior leadership role within the firm, responsible for overseeing all financial operations and ensuring the firm’s financial health and strategic growth. This individual will work closely with the firm's executive team and partners to develop and implement effective financial strategies and policies. The Director of Finance must have a deep understanding of law firm financing and a comprehensive background in high-level finance, with at least 10 years of experience in managing complex financial structures.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage the firm’s financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and reporting.
Provide strategic leadership in areas such as cash flow management, partner compensation models, and law firm-specific financial metrics.
Develop and execute financial strategies to support the firm’s overall business objectives, ensuring long-term financial stability and growth.
Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, providing clear and actionable insights for the executive team and partners.
Establish and manage financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal standards.
Analyze and assess financial risks and opportunities, providing guidance to senior leadership on key financial decisions.
Collaborate with practice group leaders and department heads to develop cost-effective financial strategies aligned with the firm’s goals.
Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial service providers.
Supervise a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of performance, development, and continuous improvement.
Monitor industry trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure the firm’s financial practices are in line with evolving standards.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 10 years of experience in high-level finance, with significant experience in law firm financial management.
Expertise in law firm financing, including financial reporting, partner compensation models, and profitability analysis specific to legal practices.
Proven track record in managing complex financial systems, budgets, and reporting mechanisms.
Strong understanding of legal accounting principles, financial regulations, and tax requirements related to law firms.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with partners, senior leadership, and staff.
Advanced proficiency in financial software and systems; experience with law firm management software is a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field; an MBA or CPA is highly preferred.
