Our client, a prestigious Law Firm in the Morris County area, has a brand new exciting opportunity for a Director of Finance! In this role, you would lead and manage all aspects of the firm’s financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, reporting, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
•Strategic Financial Planning:
Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the firm’s overall business goals, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling. •Financial Operations Management:
Oversee all aspects of the firm’s financial functions, including general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and tax compliance. •Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Prepare and present accurate and timely financial reports to senior management, partners, and other stakeholders, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. •Budgeting and Forecasting:
Working with the Chief Operating Officer, develop and manage the firm’s annual budget and forecast financial performance, ensuring accurate projections and effective resource allocation. •Cost Control and Efficiency:
Implement and monitor cost-control measures, identify areas for process improvement, and ensure efficient use of financial resources. •Risk Management:
Identify and mitigate potential financial risks, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and implementing effective internal controls. •Team Leadership and Development:
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of finance professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment. •Relationship Management:
Build and maintain strong relationships with partners, staff, and external stakeholders, including banks, auditors, and tax professionals.
Required Skills and Qualifications: •Education:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field, CPA preferred but not required. •Experience:
Extensive experience in finance and accounting,
preferably in a law firm or professional services environment. •Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, budgeting, and forecasting techniques. •Skills:
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively present financial information to both technical and non-technical audiences. •Leadership:
Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team. Specifics to Law Firm Finance: •Fee Structures:
Understanding of various billing methods used in law firms (e.g., hourly, flat fee, contingency) •Trust Account Management : Proficiency in managing and reconciling trust accounts in compliance with bar rules •Billing and Collections:
Experience with law firm-specific billing software and processes, as well as collection and accounts receivable procedures (SurePoint) •Expense Management:
Efficiently manage and process expenses, adhering to firm policies •Partner Compensation:
Knowledge of legal industry compensation structures and practices •Law Firm Software:
