Business Development Manager Role Overview

This position leads business development and key account growth for Microbiologics’ contract manufacturing, custom services, and product portfolio in the diagnostics and biopharma R&D markets. The role identifies and executes new business opportunities, develops and manages strategic account and market plans, and partners closely with Marketing, R&D, and Operations to align offerings with customer needs. The position is accountable for achieving revenue and profitability targets, providing market and competitive insights to senior leadership, ensuring compliance with applicable guidelines and standards, and representing Microbiologics through customer meetings, presentations, and industry events with travel up to 50%.

What can I expect in this role?

This is a remote position requiring up to 50% travel.

Key Duties

Establishes new and grows key corporate accounts for direct sales of products in the diagnostic and biopharma research and development and other related marketplaces.

Defines opportunities which build on company strengths, distinctive competencies and its value proposition, and which move them into new products and services, new markets, new relationships, and new business opportunities.

Provides leadership to ensure achievement of personal and company goals and profitability.

Supports all departments across the business as needed with specific expertise to help advance company goals, sales-related protocols, and strategic planning processes.

Maintains compliance with regulatory mandates, adherence to national and international guidelines and standards, while providing superior customer service.

Develops and executes a business plan and sales strategy by account and market that ensures attainment of personal and company revenue and profitability goals including a yearly projection for potential product sales and related expenses; controls expenses to meet budget guidelines.

Initiates and coordinates development of plans to acquire and grow large accounts in existing and new markets.

Travels as much as 50% for required sales activity including customer visits, training, exhibits, etc.

Partners with Marketing in the development of marketing plans, as well as with R&D and Operations to ensure prioritization of product development to meet key account needs.

Provides timely feedback and analysis regarding products, sales, markets, competition and pricing within assigned markets to Senior Management Team.

Creates and conducts market, technical, and product presentations.

Other Duties

Sets example for the business in areas of personal character, commitment, organizational and selling skills, and work habits.

Comply with rules and protocols of Quality Systems department.

Develops, manages and builds working relationships with Key Opinion Leaders and other key stakeholders.

Supports International Area Managers with business development opportunities outside of the United States, as required.

Any additional activities that support company objectives as determined by the leadership.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required, Advanced degree preferred.

10 years of previous related experience and/or training required.

Four-plus years in medical device and/or microbiology diagnostics and/or food, pharmaceutical, or clinical laboratory supply sales required.

Virology, vaccine development, infectious disease diagnostics and/or pharmaceutical, or clinical laboratory supply sales experience preferred.

The ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
