Summary

The IT Strategic Planning and Governance Manager position’s overall responsibility is to provide technology infrastructure planning, governance and deployment of technology for the firm. The position will be responsible for the strategic planning, development and implementation of IT policies and architectural and design standards with respect to network, storage and cloud services, and cybersecurity; governance over IT policies and risk assessment reporting; delivery of new services and solutions; and capacity planning to ensure the firm’s IT infrastructure meets current and future requirements. This position will partner with the IT Manager for the overall responsibility for technology infrastructure planning and deployment of technology across the firm. This position reports to the Director of Operations.

Responsibilities

Primary individual responsible for assessing and promptly communicating relevant impact of technology/cybersecurity events, whether industry and/or Kopernik‑related, and ensuring that a holistic view is taken with respect to the firm’s third‑party providers and systems utilized.

Work with the Director of Operations to analyze business needs, recommend and develop plans for strategy, budget and staffing levels in conjunction with current and long‑range objectives and policies, as well as the development, implementation and monitoring of management information and network systems policies and controls to ensure data accuracy, security and legal and regulatory compliance.

Partner with IT Manager to lead the technology infrastructure strategy and execution for the firm. Includes ensuring comprehensive disaster recovery architecture and operations in a cloud‑based network architecture.

Planning, project management and implementation leadership, identifying opportunities for automation, cost savings, efficiencies, and service quality improvement throughout the firm.

Provides infrastructure services vision, enables innovation and seeks to leverage IT emerging technologies that can create business value consistent with the firm’s requirements and expectations.

Development of enterprise standards, technology architecture and IT governance process, including preparing/reviewing/updating IT Policies and Annual Risk Assessments to identify and mitigate potential threats to the firm’s IT systems, networks and data, and adopt best practices.

Actively manage relationships with IT vendors (and potentially other firm‑wide vendors as needed) ensuring awareness of infrastructure roadmaps, with a particular focus on the changing cybersecurity landscape and the requirements on the infrastructure to protect against known and emerging threats.

Prepare and finalize an Annual Risk Assessment and ensure its calendar year‑end assessment date is completed prior to June of the following year.

Evaluate, negotiate, and manage the IT department’s third‑party service providers to ensure effective and reliable service delivery.

Manage Kopernik’s Business Continuity Plan (BCP) including updating the BCP on an annual basis and as needed; coordinate with the firm’s Emergency Contact Lead Persons to initiate the BCP when needed consistent with the BCP; provide firm‑wide notification and communication prior to and during an event; and as necessary, complete post‑mortem evaluation of event.

Review and respond to due diligence questionnaires and request for information related to IT, as needed.

Maintain record of cybersecurity events impacting the firm and provide firm‑wide notification on cybersecurity events and their impacts (if any) to Kopernik.

Monitor the IT department’s expenditure to ensure cost‑effective service delivery.

Provide leadership role in Artificial Intelligence (AI) best practices, subject‑matter expert guidance and recommendations as a participating member in the firm’s AI working group.

Communicate and present IT industry events and firm‑impacting topics via firm email correspondence and at the firm’s offsites.

Develop and maintain the IT Department’s Best Practice Policy documents using ISO 27001 standard as guidelines, as recommended by NIST, ISO and COBIT frameworks.

Mentor IT department associate(s) and educate firm’s associates in business process, technology and associated skill sets.

Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or related field. Master’s degree or MBA preferred.

Eight (8) years of experience in information technology and at least two (2) years of management experience, or relevant experience.

Experience leading and managing IT projects and rolling out IT infrastructures across various technologies.

Excellent working knowledge of computer systems, security, network and systems administration, databases and data storage systems, and telecommunications systems.

Expertise in data center management and data governance.

Strong critical thinking and decision‑making skills.

Excellent project management skills and ability to prioritize.
