JOB DESCRIPTION:

This is a Profee Surgical coding position with a focus on Ophthalmology. Candidates must have experience coding all things Ophthalmology from complex surgery, eye correction, cancer removal, etc. Ideally, this person would also have ancillary experience in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, and radiation oncology. The candidate must have surgical coding experience for a Level 1 trauma center and E/M. Under indirect supervision, the coder is responsible for the accurate coding of Ophthalmology encounters for a University Health System. This includes outpatient visit procedures, diagnoses, and conditions, working from the appropriate documentation in the medical record. Classification systems include ICD-10-CM, CPT, Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), and other specialty systems as required by diagnostic category and facility reimbursement guidelines. All work is carried out in accordance with the rules, regulations, and coding conventions of the American Hospital Association (Coding Clinic), ICD-10-CM, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and individual state health planning and development and organizational/institutional coding guidelines. REQUIRED SKILLS:

Must be a strong Surgical Coding Professional Fee Coder coding Ophthalmology surgical coder with E/M experience. Must possess a thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT, Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) coding principles, and third-party requirements regarding documentation and billing. Must possess a thorough knowledge of individual state health planning and development and organizational/institutional coding guidelines. When services/diagnoses are not documented appropriately, seeks to attain proper documentation in a timely manner according to facility standards. Must maintain a 95% overall accuracy rate. Must maintain average productivity standards - 8 encounters per hour. Works the review queue daily to ensure all charts that are placed in the review queue are worked and any corrections are communicated to the facility if necessary. The coder is responsible for coding or pending every chart placed in their queue. Coders must maintain their current professional credentials. EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be proficient with Facilities Coding Standards. Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT. Must have current 3M360 CAC & EPIC experience. # OF WEEKS:

LICENSE/CREDENTIALS REQ:

Requires one of the following coding credentials: AHIMA (CCS, CCS-P, or RHIT); AAPC (CPC, COC, CPC-H). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Five+ (5+) years' experience in medical coding. Extensive coding experience with Profee Surgical experience with Ophthalmology and ancillary experience in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, and radiation oncology. SYSTEMS:
