Job Description
In this role, you will work as a Senior Development Engineer within the Product Development group, supporting the advancement and enhancement of nonlinear implicit finite element solvers in Marc and Nastran, as well as explicit solvers in Dytran. You will author detailed design documents, translate those designs into high‑quality code, and conduct thorough testing to ensure robust and reliable performance. In addition to your own development work, you will lead projects from inception through delivery, providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers to ensure successful outcomes across the team.
Job Responsibilities
Develop algorithms for nonlinear finite element analysis.
Design, implement, integrate, document, and test systems across our nonlinear product lines (Marc, Nastran, Dytran).
Lead project and technical management activities.
Author project and user documentation.
Stay abreast of external developments in finite element‐based structural dynamics methods.
Enhance and correct defects in Nastran.
Ensure all deliverables meet established Product Quality Metrics and Guidelines.
Assist QA and Project Testing teams with benchmarking and certification to ensure a successful and timely product release.
Provide second‑line support to MSC application/support engineers.
Qualifications
Master’s with 8+ years of experience or PhD with 5+ years; high‑impact applications or notable academic achievements also encouraged.
Experience in the development and implementation of finite element code, including user subroutines for commercial FE packages and numerical material models.
Programming experience in Fortran, C, C++, Python, and other scripting languages.
Exposure to commercial finite element codes such as LS‑Dyna, Ansys, Abaqus, Nastran, Marc – highly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Master’s or PhD in Mechanical, Civil, Applied Mechanics, Aerospace Engineering, or related field with emphasis on software development and finite element methods.
Strong foundation in engineering simulation: solid mechanics, linear and nonlinear finite element solutions (implicit/explicit), contact modeling, and scaling techniques (DMP/SMP, GPU).
Ability to read research papers, identify, and implement algorithms.
Experience with commercial graphical user interfaces such as Patran, APEX, ANSA, HyperMesh.
Proficiency in software development: programming with Fortran, C, CUDA; familiarity with Unix and Windows environments.
Excellent planning, communication, and teamwork skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and interact effectively with peers, junior developers, support staff, and sales teams.
Excellent verbal and written skills in English; strong problem‑solving abilities; highly motivated team player.
What We Offer
Competitive salary with performance‑based bonuses
Comprehensive healthcare (medical, dental, vision) including HSA and FSA options
Paid time off, including holidays and parental leave
401(k) with generous employer match
Life, disability, and supplemental insurance options
Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and wellness resources
Tuition reimbursement and professional development support
Flexible work schedules and hybrid work options
