Summary The Arc of Union County Inc. is a leading provider of Person‑Centered services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Support Professional, Residential provides a safe, secure, and dependable support and assistance in areas necessary for service recipients to achieve full social inclusion, independence, personal and economic well‑being as approved by each Individual Service Plan (ISP). The role focuses on improving the quality of life of service recipients and includes transport to and from programs and community outings in a 6‑12 passenger vehicle.

The incumbent implements and facilitates behavioral/habilitation plans, teaches and monitors skills development, and provides support and mentoring for all service recipients through a person‑centered approach. The incumbent considers the unique characteristics and needs of each individual as expressed by the individual and others who know the person—family, friends, and service providers—ensuring that the service recipient is included in problem‑solving and decision‑making and that services are provided in a non‑intrusive manner. The incumbent maintains a positive, healthy, and stimulating environment and assures adequate supervision at all times. The role reports to the Supervisor, Residential or designee.

Requirements include completion of the DDD System Mandatory Training Bundle within 90 days of hire, DDD and Agency Orientations, and a minimum of 12 hours of professional development completed annually. Information related to service recipients, employees, and program operations must be handled and delivered professionally in accordance with agency and department policy.

Responsibilities

Transport service recipients to and from programs and community outings in a 6‑12 passenger vehicle.

Implement and facilitate behavioral/habilitation plans.

Teach and monitor skills development, providing support and mentoring.

Include service recipients in problem‑solving and decision‑making.

Maintain a safe, healthy, and stimulating environment with adequate supervision.

Complete required trainings and follow agency directions.

Skills

Ability to use Windows software and data entry software such as Therap.

Ability to complete shift and ISP data entry in a web‑based electronic platform.

Familiarity with social supports services for individuals with developmental disabilities or experience as a Home Health Aide, Nursing Assistant, or Private Personal Care.

Basic computer and math skills.

Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.

Qualifications

Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.

Age 18 years or older.

Valid New Jersey driver’s license with abstract not exceeding 5 points.

Ability to meet agency insurability requirements.

Completed State/Federal criminal background checks and Central Registry checks.

Consent to random drug testing for controlled dangerous substances.

Adherence to agency work schedule and incident reporting.

ADA Expectations Work may involve indoor or outdoor settings with exposure to weather elements, dirt, dust, unpleasant smells, loud noises, and occasional temperature fluctuations. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Physical Demands The employee may be required to stand and sit for periods of time, move, kneel, bend, reach, twist, carry and lift up to 35 pounds, and drive a 6‑person passenger van. Duties also include operating manual devices such as hydraulic lifts, wheelchair lifts, and vehicle doors. Agility with wrist and finger dexterity is required to access electronic information and print documents. The employee must also apply agency training in crisis management techniques during emergencies, as trained and in accordance with agency policies.

Essential Cognitive Functions Ability to analyze, compute, listen, repeat information, take notes, read documents, generate written information, independently problem‑solve, tolerate interruptions, maintain positive public relations, organize, and communicate with a diverse group of people.

Work Environment The agency offers safety trainings such as Universal Precautions/Infectious Diseases and COVID‑19 Education and Safety Practices. Employees receive personal protective equipment and necessary supplies at no charge. Each employee is responsible for completing offered trainings and implementing health and safety protocols.
