Summary The Arc of Union County Inc. is a leading provider of Person-Centered services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Day habilitation programming provides education and training to help participants acquire the skills, knowledge and experience needed to participate in the community, consistent with the Individual’s Service Plan (ISP). The role engages service recipients in small or large group outings, leisure educational activities, and community experiences. The incumbent implements behavioral/habilitation plans, provides support and mentoring in a person-centered approach, and maintains a safe, stimulating environment for participants.

Major Position Responsibilities

Operate all agency vehicles in compliance with state, local, and federal legislation and agency guidelines.

Inspect vehicle safety and equipment before and after each trip; ensure monitoring devices are functioning.

Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report mechanical issues promptly to supervisors.

Transport service recipients to and from community activities, ensuring safe boarding and exit.

Supervise and support service recipients during outings, providing assistance with daily living and recreational activities as outlined in their Service Plan.

Assist with medication administration and related documentation.

Participate in safety drills, mock vehicle emergency evacuations, and other required training.

Communicate timely, thorough updates regarding transportation, schedule changes, and any incidents to supervisors and relevant stakeholders.

Support service recipients in planning and attending pre-admission, IDT, and ISP meetings, contributing to goal attainment.

Maintain accurate documentation in the Therap system and other electronic platforms.

Respond to emergencies, including vehicle accidents, medical incidents, and reporting unusual incidents or possible abuse.

Adhere to time‑keeping policy and maintain reliable attendance.

Conduct vehicle and driver inspections, including checking fluid levels and required vehicle documentation.

Assist in the implementation of behavior plans, skill development, and other individualized support strategies.

Serve as an advocate for service recipients, ensuring effective communication of needs and preferences.

Skills

Ability to use Windows software and data entry applications such as Therap.

Basic computer and math skills.

Willingness and ability to learn all areas of support and service for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills; read, write, and speak English.

Qualifications

Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.

Legal driving age 21 years or older; minimum three years of driving experience with a good driving record.

Valid New Jersey driver’s license with abstract not exceeding 5 points.

Minimum 20/40 correctable vision in both eyes.

Successful completion of state/federal criminal background and Central Registry checks.

Ability to handle service recipient, employee, and program operation information professionally and in accordance with agency policy.

Physical Demands and ADA Expectations The position requires performing duties in indoor and outdoor settings where exposure to weather, dust, noise, and occasional temperature fluctuations may occur.
