About The Department The Section of Hematology/Oncology has a proud and long tradition of excellence in research-based patient care and clinical discovery. Ranked among the finest cancer programs in the country, the Section is comprised of nationally and internationally known faculty with expertise in all major types of malignancies, blood disorders, and experimental therapies.

Job Summary The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will provide comprehensive care to transplant and cell therapy patients for the Section of Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Medicine. In this role, the APP will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, using advanced clinical skills to manage a caseload of patients.

Responsibilities

Provide a model of care that is shaped by theory, expanded by science, research and reflective practice and is identified by a holistic and comprehensive approach to the patients.

Manage the care of patients, including assessment, diagnosis and treatment for assigned patients.

Document history and physical examination and changes in management according to government guidelines in the outpatient clinic at University of Chicago.

Help arrange diagnostic tests, follow-up on tests, and other patient care issues.

Staff clinics as assigned; attend multidisciplinary conferences of assigned disease area.

As part of duties, perform reporting for government agencies, chart review, refill prescriptions, and answer phone calls for patients for whom the APP is involved with longitudinal care.

Attend conferences and continuing education courses to keep abreast of updates in the management of hematology/oncology patients.

Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient’s plan of care.

Perform procedures including bone marrow biopsy, suture removal, administration of intrathecal chemotherapy, and lumbar puncture.

Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization.

Has a deep understanding and response to adverse drug reactions, with special attention to vulnerable populations such as infants, children, pregnant and lactating women, or older adults. Develops and coordinates APP training and professional development activities.

Performs other related work as needed.

Education Minimum requirements include a college or university degree from an accredited school/college.

Work Experience Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through a combination of education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline.

Certifications Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration required. Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO). State of Illinois.

Preferred Qualifications

Once licensed and as needed, apply for a mid-level practitioner controlled substance license and DEA number.

Privileged and credentialed through UCM Medical Staff Office prior to start date.

Technical Skills Or Knowledge

Conduct physical examinations and health assessments.

Interview and obtain medical information.

Proficiency in the use of computers.
