Position Summary The Executive Director, South Region Acute Care Pharmacy Services serves as the senior pharmacy leader responsible for strategic, operational, and clinical oversight of acute care pharmacy services across 10 hospitals.
This individual leads a team of more than 500 pharmacy leaders and staff and is responsible for advancing pharmacy strategy, optimizing medication‑use systems, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving excellence in quality, safety, and patient experience.
The Executive Director plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of hospital pharmacy practice — fostering innovation, developing talent, and strengthening partnerships across the continuum of care.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership
Develop and implement long-term strategies that advance acute care pharmacy services and align with the health system’s mission and goals.
Establish measurable objectives and outcomes for performance, safety, and service excellence.
Build and maintain trusted partnerships with hospital executives, clinical leaders, and external stakeholders.
Represent pharmacy services at the system level, serving as a key advisor and advocate for pharmacy’s strategic value.
Operational Excellence & Safety
Provide executive oversight for acute care pharmacy operations, ensuring 24/7 service coverage and clinical integration.
Lead system-wide initiatives to enhance medication safety, automation, and distribution efficiency.
Ensure full compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards.
Drive performance through data-driven metrics and continuous improvement processes.
Lead and inspire a diverse team of directors, managers, and frontline staff.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
Oversee workforce planning, leadership development, and succession strategies.
Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion across all levels of the department.
Oversee operational and capital budgets for all acute care pharmacy services.
Balance fiscal responsibility with a commitment to safe, high-quality patient care.
Lead cost-management, supply-chain optimization, and performance improvement initiatives.
Use analytics and reporting to monitor outcomes, identify opportunities, and inform strategy.
Promote a “customer-first” culture emphasizing communication, transparency, and responsiveness.
Partner with interdisciplinary teams to strengthen patient outcomes and care coordination.
Support educational and residency programs that develop future pharmacy leaders.
Collaborate with system and regional leaders to expand pharmacy services and operational reach.
Qualifications Required
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy.
Minimum 8 years of progressive pharmacy leadership experience demonstrating strategic and operational success.
Minimum 5 years of direct managerial experience leading people and programs in a large, matrixed organization.
Completion of a PGY1/2 Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) residency or equivalent experience.
Proven experience managing multi-site budgets and complex operations.
Eligible for Wisconsin pharmacist licensure (RPh/PharmD) within 6 months of hire.
Preferred
Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.
Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
12+ years of pharmacy experience, including oversight of multiple hospital sites or centralized operations within an academic medical center.
Membership in professional organizations such as Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin (PSW) and ASHP.
Visionary leadership with the ability to translate strategic goals into actionable results.
Exceptional communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
Strong financial and analytical acumen.
Commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and team development.
Demonstrated success leading large, diverse teams through change and growth.
