Evening Counselor, Yawkey House Shelter
Position at Pine Street Inn.
SCHEDULE:
40 hours per week, Friday to Tuesday 2:45 PM–11:15 PM. Essential position during weather or other emergencies.
PAY:
$21.40–$30.00 per hour, DOE (Salary ranges based on relevant experience and skill set). An additional $2.00 per hour for shifts 10:45 PM–7:15 AM.
LOCATION:
363 Albany Street, Boston, MA; 100% on site.
SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:
The Guest Services Specialist (GSS) follows Pine Street Inn policies and procedures to maintain a safe shelter environment for guests and staff. The GSS focuses on direct care of guests, responding promptly and professionally to their needs, motivating guests to pursue housing pathways, and connecting them to appropriate resources. The GSS assists guests in connecting with substance abuse, mental health, and medical resources when the shelter cannot safely accommodate a guest’s needs. The role requires sustained energy and focus, data entry into the Homeless Management Information (HMIS) system, documentation per agency policy, and sound decision‑making with supervisor guidance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
High School diploma or GED
Preferred:
Valid MA driver’s license in good standing
Preferred:
Bilingual English/Spanish
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
Required:
Minimum of one year of experience in the human services field
Preferred:
Experience administering Narcan and CPR in a work setting
Preferred:
Knowledge of addiction, recovery, and mental illness
Preferred:
Knowledge of issues pertaining to homelessness
Preferred:
Knowledge of local resources
