What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a motivated engineer for research and development of electric motors. This position is critical to the development of high-performance, high efficiency and low-cost electric powertrain for Tesla's current and future electric vehicles. This person will be working with the motor research team to develop & improve the loss model, flux linkage model and control model; design & optimize electric powertrain, develop test plans and perform measurements in the dyno lab.
What You'll Do
Develop cohesive simulation model for 3 phase and multi-phase motor, for both finite element analysis and dynamic motor control
Develop the motor fault behavior model and develop motor fault handling strategy
Develop high frequency motor model to couple with drive inverter switching model
Traction motor design, use our design tools to evaluate large population of motors to derive the optimal powertrain system for electric vehicles
Support new motor development, collaborate across teams for motor validation and reporting
Support production change & expansion, evaluate new materials and manufacturing technologies
Develop motor control simulation model and support motor control firmware
What You'll Bring
Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
Strong mathematical and physical understanding on electrical machinery
Expertise on finite element simulation
Knowledge on motor control theory
Strong Matlab or Python programming skills
Experience on electric motor loss characterization
Experience with NVH analysis in electric motors and drive unit as a system preferred
Experience with insulation system preferred
Expertise on magnetic materials preferred
Experience in electric motor design or manufacturing

Expected Compensation $100,160 - $225,840/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
