Huitt-Zollars, Inc has a full‑time opportunity for an Architecture Principal-in-Charge/Vice President. The candidate will have at least 15 years’ experience and will be a registered Architect in the state of Texas (or have a clear path to registration via reciprocity). Duties include, but are not limited to, business development, mentoring staff, initial project research, management of plan production staff, plan processing and management of plan processing efforts, construction administration and project close‑out efforts.

Duties and General Expectations Build a Commercial Practice in the Dallas Region. To do this, the candidate will be expected to:
Learn about the services that Huitt‑Zollars offers, to be able to interface effectively with clients.
Become familiar with the National Commercial Staff through interactions such as personal interviews, discussions and trips to other Commercial Practice offices.
Leverage local knowledge and contacts while conducting market research.
Identify & Lead Pursuits (Prime or Sub).
Participate in Industry Organizations.
Recruit staff for the work region wide.
Sales and marketing expectations:
Year 1‑2: BD/Marketing Time 95%; Project Time 5%
Year 3‑4: BD/Marketing Time 70%; Project Time 30%
Sales Goal: $300K‑$1.5M
Revenue Goal: 70%‑80% of Sales
Year 5+: BD/Marketing Time 40%, Operations 20%, Project Time 40%
Sales Goal: $2M
Revenue Goal: $1.5M
Establish and grow a Commercial practice in the Dallas Region.
Support growth targets of 10% per year.
Provide direction on market trends and help shape business planning.
Identify contacts/clients/opportunities for new work.
Strategic planning of Commercial Practice marketing.
Responsible for assigned portion of office sales goals. Function as a Lead Principal‑in‑charge and as a Senior Project Manager on key projects.
Train/mentor staff and review work for quality assurance.
Grow the Commercial Practice group.
Ensure the Project Manager and/or Project Teams have the resources necessary to meet scheduling and budget commitments on projects.
Interface daily with clients, develop proposals, negotiate scopes and fees, ensure timely billing and collections and prepare change orders.
Prepare project work plan and schedule for projects.
Manage the preparation of design and construction drawings.
Direct a staff with varied levels of experience and expertise.
Provide technically sound designs for our clients.
Ensure quality control measures are being adhered to on project delivery.
Initiate and lead kickoff calls or high‑level design calls with client in addition to preparing monthly forecasting and client cost estimates when appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
Take active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and may be responsible for a stated portion of office sales goal. Assist and/or lead team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ and Proposals). Develop and/or execute project win strategy.
Successfully and consistently function as Lead Principal‑in‑charge for the designated Practice Area in the geographic market.
Competent, knowledgeable, service leader in the market(s) served.
Understand and follow HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensure quality control measures are adhered to on projects and daily operations.
Prepare and follow comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensure proper staff is assigned and utilized on projects.
Review project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Lead successful projects (profit, on‑schedule, quality, client satisfaction). Verify client satisfaction routinely and share feedback with team.
Proactively work with PM to strategize resolving issues that impact project performance. Review progress with PM at least monthly (including & complete vs. % spent) and ensure PM follows weekly rhythm.
Successfully contribute to overall profitability and financial performance on projects.
Oversee staff deliverables and production assigned to projects to ensure client, legal, and company requirements are met.

Qualifications
B‑Arch or M‑Arch (preferred) in Architecture.
Must be a registered Architect in Texas (or have a clear path to registration via reciprocity) with a minimum of 15 years of experience.
Experience with producing accurate and complete construction plans and reports.
Ability to work independently in a team environment and to manage multiple projects with limited supervision.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, conveying technical information clearly and concisely.
Ability to train/mentor staff and review work for quality assurance.
Solid leadership and management skills, self‑motivated, and able to meet deadlines, satisfy clients, and solve complex problems.
Knowledge of Revit and supporting modeling, design and presentation software (Enscape, Rhino, Lumion, etc.) is a plus.
Highly organized and detail oriented.
Willingness/ability to assume increased responsibilities when presented.
Consistently deliver proactive communication with clients. When client issues arise, address or expeditiously elevate to discipline lead.
Develop relationships with clients that allow ease in communication and problem solving.
Troubleshoot issues and recommend solutions, effectively implement and document for internal and external stakeholders.
