Position Details Position Title: HVAC Tech I/II - (Multiple positions available) Banner Position Number: 000699 E-Class: CN - Class Nonexempt FT .53 or > Classification Title: HVAC Tech I Department: Facilities & Operations Admin - MU5200 Job Description: The Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician performs skilled technical work in installing, maintaining, modifying, repairing, and removal of HVAC systems, devices, and related controls. Troubleshoots problems using hand and power tools and precision measuring and testing devices to make adjustments or repairs in accordance to work orders or verbal instructions. This position is classified as HVAC Tech I for applicants without a trades license. Applicants holding a valid HVAC Technician license will be considered for the HVAC Tech II level.
Certifications
Universal EPA certification.
HVAC Technician license for HVAC Tech II Level.
General Duties
Troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment, to ensure efficient day to day operation of the University.
Provides the full scope and range of work involved in the installation, inspection and repair of new and existing HVAC systems at university owned properties.
Repairs, installs, and troubleshoots all HVAC control systems.
Inspects and tests both high- and low-pressure refrigerant systems to locate and diagnose faults and malfunctions.
Performs seasonal overhauls in transition of systems from heating to cooling and vice versa.
Performs HVAC system inspections and manufacturer-recommended preventive maintenance.
Inspects and tests HVAC systems to locate and diagnose faults and malfunctions, performs required repairs.
Provides means of access through walls, floors, and other structures as may be required by dismantling or cutting through structural and other physical barriers in order to gain access for repairs or for new installations.
Restores assigned work sites to their original condition at the completion of work by removing tools, materials, and debris, drop cloths, and tarpaulins used during the project, returning furniture and equipment to their proper location, setting up equipment that had been dismantled, and coordinating the cleaning, painting, or replacing tile(s) and other structural effects through which holes have been cut.
Operates multimeters, voltmeters, ampmeters, powermeters, electric tracking equipment, frequency counters, AC and DC power supplies.
Operates power tools, hand tools, air compressors, jackhammers, backhoes, oxygen‑acetylene torches, soldering and desoldering equipment, man lifts, and manifold gauges.
Reads and interprets schematics, blueprints, and manufacturers specifications.
Troubleshoots and repairs control devices and wiring within the HVAC primary system, and maintaining, repairing, modifying secondary refrigerant systems including pumps, valves, cooling, air moving equipment and local temperature/pressure controls.
Insulate pipes and ductwork as needed and other weatherization needs.
Maintain, service, repair, replace stem traps and other steam related equipment.
Completes truck and shop inventories as assigned.
Cleans equipment, shop area, and work site.
Complies with federal regulations governing environmental protection, hazardous waste disposal, and the use of refrigerants, chemical substances and materials.
Performs other duties as assigned deemed necessary to meet the needs of Marshall University including performance of work in support of other shops/trades.

Salary Range $33,381 - $50,339: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, education, experience, and internal equity.
Qualifications Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Universal EPA certification
HVAC Technician license only required for level II.
Experience 2 year experience in commercial/industrial HVAC.
Preferred Qualifications
HVAC Certificate from Technical College
Vocational School Or completed HVAC Apprenticeship.
Preferred Experience 4 years experience in commercial/industrial HVAC.

Work week is 37.5 hrs.
