Job Summary

The MGH Institute of Health Professions invites applications for term lecturer faculty positions across a variety of programs, including:

Communication Sciences & Disorders Genetic Counseling Health Professions Education Healthcare Administration & Data Analytics Nursing Occupational Therapy Physical Therapy Physician Assistant Studies Rehabilitation Sciences Healthcare Leadership Audiology

Term Lecturers are appointed on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent upon student demand, and typically teach between 3-9 credits per semester, dependent on program requirements, in various formats (ex. classroom settings, labs, simulation spaces, at clinical sites).

Term Lecturers hired into these roles will possess one of following titles: Term Lecturer, Course Developer, Facilitator, Laboratory Instructor, Simulation Coordinator, Site Clinical Instructor, Teaching Fellow, Clinical Oversight Instructor, or Project Mentor.

Responsibilities primarily involve delivering didactic content through both on-site and online platforms, managing course delivery, grading, student mentoring, and maintaining regular office hours.

Qualifications

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The specific duties and responsibilities are contingent on the program and role. During the selection process, relevant program details will be provided.

Generally, The Term Lecturer Will

Deliver high-quality instruction in alignment with their area of expertise and program needs. Develop and manage online course content using Desire to Learn (D2L) where applicable. Publish and maintain the course syllabus. Oversee course management and content delivery. Conduct assessments and assign grades for student performance. Provide student mentoring and academic support, including designated office hours.

While specific qualifications are program-dependent and will be clarified during the selection process, all Term Lecturers should generally possess:

An advanced or terminal degree in a relevant field. Previous clinical experience in applicable programs. An active professional license for programs requiring licensure. A commitment to graduate student success and a demonstrated dedication to fostering diversity and inclusion within the academic environment. The ability to work independently and effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, administration, staff, patients, and external partners.

Additional Skills And Abilities

Specific skills, abilities, and competencies required are program and role-specific and will be communicated during the selection process. However, candidates should be prepared to meet the following general requirements:

Physical Capabilities: The job involves regular activities such as sitting, standing, mobility, using hands for various tasks, and oral communication. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities. Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Some travel may be necessary. Professional Skills: Flexibility in scheduling, the ability to prioritize tasks, self-monitoring, collaborative teamwork, especially in interprofessional settings, and tracking multiple project progress are essential skills for success in this role.

MGH Institute of Health Professions is a graduate school in Boston that provides entry-level and post-professional programs in Nursing, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Genetic Counseling, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Physician Assistant Studies. The PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences and a PhD and Master of Science in Health Professions Education have been added in recent years along with two new programs: Master of Health Administration in Leadership and Master of Science in Healthcare Data Analytics to meet rising demand for highly educated health care professionals, educators, and researchers.
