MOTOR VEHICLE CONTROL INSPECTOR I
– City and County of Honolulu
Location: Waianae, HI
Pay Range: $80,000 – $100,000
Responsibilities
Conduct field investigations of complaints on abandoned and neglected vehicles.
Conduct field inspections of various vehicles for compliance with city ordinances and state laws, including:
Taxi, tour, tow, U‑drive vehicles
Pedicabs, mopeds, and passenger‑carrying trucks
Reconstructed vehicles and safety inspection stations
Verify companies (e.g., taxi, U‑drive, tour, pedicab) have valid business licenses and permits.
Perform other duties and responsibilities of the position.
Minimum Qualification Requirements At the time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non‑citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
Education Requirement Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
Experience Requirement Two (2) years of experience in inspectional, investigative, instructional or repair work which shall have included ascertaining the overall mechanical, operating and safety condition of motor vehicles.
License Requirement Possession of a valid appropriate driver’s license (automobile/Type 3), prior to appointment.
Special Requirement Possession of a special police commission prior to completion of probation. During the probationary period, selectees shall be fingerprinted, photographed, and subject to a background investigation by the Honolulu Police Department.
