Mobile Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Location: Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii (Government: JBPHH, HI)
Employment Type: Full Time
Pay: $38.65 per hour (High School)

Responsibilities
Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs identified during initial inspections and as per OEM and/or NAVFAC P‑300 guidance.
Mandated 120‑calendar‑day cycle for completing general maintenance and safety inspections on each piece of CESE/MHE per requirements; maintain this service cycle.
Schedule all CESE/MHE equipment for service every 120 calendar days or sooner if the vehicle accumulates high mileage (typically >5,000 miles since last maintenance).
Reference the CESE/MHE inventory list that itemizes each piece of CESE/MHE by shop location, equipment ID number, make, model, year, fuel type, and current mileage.
Pick up vehicles requiring service from a location designated by the Government’s Transportation Officer and return them to a designated holding area after maintenance, repairs, and quality‑control inspections. Contractor personnel shall only operate government vehicles in the official performance of duties and shall not use NSW vehicles for personnel use.
Perform maintenance and repair on government‑owned CESE/MHE identified in the inventory list, with total numbers varying by +/-5% during the performance period; provide supply and data‑entry support for all equipment and vehicles.
Conduct scheduled maintenance in three levels (“A”, “B”, “C”) based on mileage or time, with standard vehicle safety inspections as a specific task on every scheduled maintenance Shop Repair Order (SRO).
Level “A” maintenance every 120 calendar days, including safety inspections, overall mechanical inspection, fluid and filter changes, and standard service items per OEM recommendations; annotate the SRO and record in the vehicle maintenance database within three days of final inspection.
Level “C” maintenance annually, including detailed safety inspection and four‑wheel alignment when warranted; annotate the SRO and record in the vehicle maintenance database within three days of final inspection.
Act as the direct liaison with the government to discuss access to CESE/MHE, maintenance schedules, and use of Government‑furnished equipment (GFE) if provided.
Be available during standard business hours to address issues and workflow.
Have capacity and technical skills to perform all levels of repair to suspension, steering, electrical, instrumentation, computer controls, driver controls, brakes, fuel delivery, carburetion and fuel injection, exhaust, and powertrain systems.
Repair electric and manual window mechanisms, vehicle locks, seats, and incorporated electronics.
Demount and mount all sizes of tires, balance wheel‑tire assemblies, and perform tire repairs (plug insertion, patches, replacement) as needed.
Perform welding, metal forming, sheet‑metal work, minor body, and fender repairs.
Provide maintenance and repair on GSE such as lawn mowers, pressure washers, tree/brush trimming equipment, generators, compressors, hydraulic attachments, and other small portable engine‑powered tools supporting grounds maintenance.
Provide GSE equipment requiring service to a respective mechanic; after maintenance and inspections, return the equipment to a designated holding area.
Qualifications
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as an OEM mechanic at an automotive dealership or commercial fleet mechanic.
Equivalent military experience.
Possess an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in diesel engines and at least two (2) other Heavy Truck categories (e.g., Gas & Diesel Engines; Drive Train; Brakes; Suspension & Steering; Electrical; Heating & A/C; Preventative Maintenance).
