Reporting to the
US OpEx Manager
the
Automation Engineer
leads the global development, standardization, and implementation of automation systems and best practices across Critical Power manufacturing sites. Acts as a technical liaison and mentor, driving consistency, efficiency, and innovation in the design and deployment of automation solutions for power distribution equipment and related manufacturing processes.
What a typical day looks like:
Develop and standardize global automation best practices, ensuring alignment across all Critical Power sites.
Contribute to continuous improvement and digitalization initiatives in manufacturing processes.
Act as a global liaison between regional teams, engineering, and leadership to ensure consistent implementation of automation strategies.
Provide technical mentorship to regional engineers.
Design, engineer, and commission PLC, HMI, and SCADA‑based automation systems for manufacturing and testing of power distribution equipment, including the development and modification of moderately complex tooling, machinery, and processes.
Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of automation into product designs.
Integrate automation systems with MES, historian, and enterprise platforms (e.g., SAP, Power BI).
Ensure compliance with global electrical and safety standards (e.g., NFPA 70E, IEC, UL, CE).
Perform and support the study, selection, and implementation of automated equipment.
Establish technical manuals, drawings, models, training documentation, preventative maintenance plans and troubleshooting guides for automated equipment and automated processes.
Collaborate and offer input to planning, building, and maintaining the Automation framework and associated processes for new products.
Identify and drive change to ensure automation effectiveness of existing processes.
Demonstrate thorough understanding of customer requirements, offering suggestions and ideas on how best to deliver automation solutions.
The experience we’re looking to add to our team:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, supporting and deploying automated equipment.
Strong technical foundation in electrical/mechanical troubleshooting, PLC/HMI programming, and industrial communication protocols.
Experience with automation systems, including robotics, machine safety devices, MES integration, and Industry 4.0/IIoT solutions.
Ability to interpret and develop mechanical and electrical designs using tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
Skilled in project management, vendor coordination, and execution of FAT/SAT activities for equipment and automation deployments.
Proficient in root cause analysis, continuous improvement, and Lean manufacturing principles.
Basic scripting capabilities (Python, C/C++) to support automation workflows and system integration.
SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD (preferred).
Lean Manufacturing experience (preferred).
Available to travel 20%–50% domestic and international.
