Department Neurology
The Department of Neurology has a talented, robust team of more than 70 faculty members spanning nine divisions, including representatives from every neurology subspecialty in adult and child neurology, award‑winning educators, clinical and translational neuroscientists, and master clinicians.
The Department of Neurology’s vision is to provide the best patient‑centered neurological care while fostering the career development, education, and training of our team members. It realizes this vision through three missions:
Improve the lives of children and adults with neurological disorders through compassionate, high‑quality medical care and patient education.
Provide exceptional education to our students, residents, fellows, and the wider community of medical professionals.
Advance the knowledge of neurological diseases by actively developing innovative treatments through basic, translational, and clinical research.
Mission or Goal of Unit : The mission of the Department of Neurology is to provide state‑of‑the‑art comprehensive patient‑centered neurological care for adults and children, perform translational and clinical research to further understanding of disease mechanisms, develop new treatments, and train the next generation of neurologists and clinical neuroscientists.
Chief Purpose of this position The Department of Neurology is seeking a full‑time member to join our expanding clinical and research enterprises in the Division of Movement Disorders. This position will provide patient care, engage in medical student and neurology resident and fellow education, and participate in clinical research.
Position Responsibilities
Clinical:
Primary clinical responsibilities include care of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings with an emphasis on movement disorders.
Teaching:
Faculty member will teach medical students and housestaff, organize and develop formal conferences for housestaff and students emphasizing issues in movement disorders, attend weekly Grand Rounds, and lecture upon occasion as requested.
Research:
The Division of Movement Disorders is engaged in clinical and translational research projects. The faculty member will be expected to participate in, and when appropriate lead, clinical research and clinical trials.
Service:
Faculty member will serve on departmental, School of Medicine, and/or University committees as necessary, and in a professional capacity in their field (e.g., reviewer, conference organizer).
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
BC/BE in Neurology
Completed an accredited Movement Disorders Fellowship
Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Compensation and Eligibility
Salary Range: Commensurate with experience
