The mission of NWAC is to increase avalanche awareness, reduce avalanche impacts, and equip the community with mountain weather and avalanche forecasts, education, and data. This position is funded and managed by 501(c)3 non-profit arm of NWAC. POSITION SUMMARY This is a 9-month position from August 4, 2025 - April 30, 2026. We are seeking a passionate and organized Volunteer and Communications Coordinator (VCC) to join our team. In this dynamic role, you’ll be responsible for logistics around volunteers, supporting internal and external communications, and helping with a variety of administrative tasks. This is an entry-level position ideal for a candidate at the beginning stages of their career. The ideal candidate is someone interested in social media, managing data, and working with volunteers. We are looking for someone with a passion for the winter outdoors and public safety, but professional backcountry experience is not required for this role. This position reports to the Education, Volunteer & Outreach Manager. Outreach and Events The VCC is responsible for logistics and coordination related to NWAC’s outreach programs and events, including Trailhead Outreach, Events by NWAC, and Events by Others. This position will schedule volunteers for outreach and events and run day-of volunteer coordination for Events by NWAC. They will also support the Membership & Communications Manager with event planning logistics. Volunteers are an integral part of both our community outreach and fundraising efforts. Volunteers are utilized across the organization for events, administrative support, and technology projects. The VCC is responsible for coordinating NWAC’s volunteer forces and supporting a positive volunteer culture that leads to volunteer retention and satisfaction. Communications Coordination In addition to our forecasting tools, NWAC communicates with our audience through email, social media, and direct mail. The VCC will work with the Membership & Communication Manager to draft content for our communication platforms and ensure timely responses to email and social media communications. Administrative Support This position will support a number of administrative needs to support the organization’s work. This includes data tracking and cleanup in Salesforce, tracking membership gear inventory, office support, meeting logistics, and other necessary tasks. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES • Adds Trailhead Outreach (THO) and event dates to the volunteer page on the NWAC website • Schedules volunteers and ensures all dates have adequate staffing • Communicates all pertinent information to volunteers in a timely manner, ensuring that volunteers have all necessary materials to successfully run an outreach event • Coordinates logistics around THO and event materials including managing remote storage units and • Distributes volunteer trainings and ensures waivers have been signed • Ensures all outreach events run smoothly • Communicates with event hosts about volunteer needs and expectations • Compiles reports on efficacy and reach of outreach programs • Inventories and maintains all THO and event materials • Runs all day-of volunteer coordination at NWAC events • Supports the MCC with logistics including venues, calendaring, timelines, and ticketing • Attends events and Trailhead Outreaches when necessary • Coordinates a volunteer pool of ~150 people; ensuring timely communication to team and that organizational goals are met • Schedules volunteers for NWAC events, Events by Others, Trailhead Outreach, and shipping • Logs and approves volunteer hours in Salesforce and maintains accurate records of volunteer hours • Coordinates logistics around the Volunteer Give-Back Program with support from the EVOM Communication Coordination • Monitors info email and social media accounts • Assists with implementation of the communication strategy • Helps craft emails and social media content • Works with NWAC non-profit staff and forecasters to create content Administrative Support • Monitors inventory of membership collateral • Monitors inventory and procures necessary supplies, processes documentation, and performs other tasks to maintain an office environment to support staff • Assists with internal technology related to events and fundraising • Maintains shared office calendars • Completes a broad variety of administrative tasks that facilitate the ED’s ability to effectively lead the organization, including: assisting with special projects; designing and producing complex documents, reports, and presentations; collecting and preparing information for meetings with staff and outside parties; composing and preparing correspondence; preparing the monthly report to the Board; and maintaining contact lists • Assists with tracking, logging, and cleaning data in Salesforce REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Must be 21+ • Must have a valid driver’s license • Must have means of reliable transportation and be comfortable driving in winter conditions • Competence with shared calendars, shared spreadsheets, and clear, timely email communication • Ability to work collaboratively with a team STRONGLY DESIRED • Interest in working with volunteers • Interest in data management and tech platforms • Strong attention to detail • Self-motivated with strong problem-solving abilities • Passion for snow sports and avalanche education/safety • Strong written and verbal communication skills RECOMMENDED SKILLS • Direct experience with Salesforce or other CRM platforms • Experience crafting a variety of content (reels, stories, grid posts) on social media platforms • Experience with winter recreation • Experience with event coordination WORKING CONDITIONS • The job is located at the NWAC office in North Bend, Washington. We have a flexible work environment, including a hybrid remote work policy. Required in-office days flex from 2-4 days per week depending on the time of year. • You must live within a one-hour drive of the North Bend, WA office. • Occasional weekend and evening work • Ability to lift 50 lbs and be in front of a computer for extended periods of time COMPENSATION This is a full-time, 9-month, non-exempt hourly position between August 4th and April 30th .
