What to Expect To ensure Tesla's overall mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy, the Tesla Energy team is bringing our world‑leading battery technology to the grid. Tesla is leveraging its breakthrough firmware, electronics, test, and manufacturing capability to develop and deploy grid‑connected storage at residential, industrial, and utility levels.

Tesla Energy is looking for an engineer passionate about integration and testing of complex industrial battery storage systems, from technical program management down to hands‑on troubleshooting. This role emphasizes collaboration across teams to ensure firmware and software meet customer, commissioning, service, and engineering needs, while driving the world's transition to a sustainable future. We prioritize fun, teamwork, and impactful work.

What You’ll Do

Perform hardware, firmware, and software integration for next‑generation Tesla industrial energy storage - focused on Site Operation

Conduct hands‑on testing, debugging, and troubleshooting of product hardware, software, and network operations at deployment sites

Design and implement automated validation sequences to verify network performance, large‑scale system operations, and site reliability

Lead and own test plan definition for new firmware and software features, providing continuous feedback for revisions and ensuring alignment with cross‑team needs (e.g., customers, commissioning, service, engineering)

Identify, elevate, and resolve issues with hardware, firmware, and site operations during system bring‑up, utility performance testing, and grid contingency scenarios

Serve as a key leader in FMEA processes as part of product design, integration, and testing for 300MW+ industrial energy storage sites, with a focus on networking, security, and SCADA integration

What You’ll Bring

Degree in an engineering‑related field, or proof of exceptional skills in related areas, with practical engineering experience

Previous systems integration and testing experience, including technical program management and working closely with mechanical, electrical, software, and site operations teams

Hands‑on experience with networking (preferably in industrial environments), including architectures, configuration of equipment, networking security, and system security protocols

Strong knowledge of ISC and SCADA protocols such as Modbus and DNP3, along with Power Plant controllers and equipment like RTACs, relays, meters, GPS clocks, and other SCADA systems

Proficiency in Linux systems and administration, including Docker containers; DevOps experience is a bonus

Good programming skills, capable of delivering high‑quality code in at least one of C, Python, or similar languages

Exceptional analytical problem‑solving skills, able to identify and resolve issues in complex HW/SW systems at operational sites

Effective communicator with excellent attention to detail and an understanding of hardware/software development processes

Preferred: Experience with tools for big data analysis, such as SQL, InfluxDB, Grafana, or Splunk, to support site monitoring and troubleshooting

Preferred: Familiarity with batteries, power electronics, renewable energy products, electricity distribution systems, or industrial storage deployments, with comfort working with high‑power (50kW+) and/or high‑voltage (1kVDC, 480VAC) products in field or site environments
