Position Description
Oversee all YMCA staff, operations, and programs, maximizing staff expertise and creating a supportive workplace culture that promotes professional growth and high performance.
Empower and guide direct reports to implement initiatives, assignments, and programs aligned with the strategic plan and annual budget.
Lead the organization’s philanthropic strategy by expanding community partnerships, mobilizing volunteers, and cultivating major donors and community stakeholders.
Provide leadership to the Board of Trustees as its CEO by implementing board policies, plans, and directives, and delivering timely, transparent reports on all matters affecting the YMCA’s welfare.
Maintain strong communication and collaboration with area schools, nonprofits, businesses, and government agencies.
Build and sustain productive relationships across the community and within the state, regional, national, and international YMCA networks.
Provide leadership in securing essential resources for operations, capital improvements, community initiatives, and long‑term financial strength.
Ensure responsible fiscal management, accurate reporting, and effective financial controls within the board‑approved annual budget.
Key Performance Objectives Build and Lead Staff Ensure a comprehensive talent development system, recruit, hire, motivate, develop, and retain high‑performing staff, and foster a learning organization.
Position the Y as a Vital Partner for Community Change Serve as a highly visible ambassador, building relationships with diverse stakeholders and maintaining the YMCA’s reputation as a leading nonprofit.
Develop and Implement a Strategic Plan Collaborate closely with volunteers, community leaders, and staff to design and implement a strategic plan with clear strategies, timelines, deliverables, and measurable goals.
Fiscal Management Apply advanced financial analysis to forecast trends, grow earned revenue and contributions, and achieve balanced or surplus operations.
Improve Operating Performance Engage the board and key staff to develop an annual tactical plan that drives safe, relevant, and sustainable operations.

Main Campus – Boothbay Harbor
12 acres along Townsend Avenue with four primary buildings totaling >65,000 sq ft.
Modernized multi‑use center with full‑sized gymnasium, community rooms, teaching kitchen, wellness areas, aquatic center, and more.
Boothbay Region TV & Media Center and Bosarge Family Aquatic Center with competition pool and sauna.
Marylouise Tandy Cowan Field House
Connected to the Main Facility and renovated in 2023.
Includes 1/8-mile indoor track, two tennis courts, and the largest PPA solar array in Maine.
Harbor Montessori School
Licensed childcare center with six classrooms for ages 6 weeks to 6 years.
Annex Dedicated to the YMCA’s nationally recognized Y Arts Program.
Emergency Preparedness The YMCA is actively working toward designation as the region’s emergency shelter.
Camp Knickerbocker – Boothbay Located three miles from the Main Campus, spanning >65 acres along Little Knickerbocker Lake.

Criteria for Candidates
Accredited 4‑year college degree or equivalent experience.
Senior management experience at a YMCA or comparable organization, supervising multiple levels of staff.
Demonstrated ability to build and strengthen community relationships.
Experience developing innovative programs and evaluating their effectiveness.
Strategic planning and fundraising experience, including capital campaigns and grants.
Financial management and budget development experience, with a record of fiscal leadership.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and values consistent with the YMCA mission.
