Summary
The Asst. Director, Pharmacy assists the department head in daily duties and assumes responsibility in his/her absence. This employee also implements departmental policies relevant to the operation of the pharmacy, and assists in the development and implementation of new concepts in drug distribution and control, in accordance with established policies and accepted standards of proper pharmacy practice. Moreover, the incumbent oversees pharmacists and provides pharmacy services, such as compounding and dispensing medications and other pharmaceuticals.
Core Job Functions
Initiates, schedules, directs, and controls day‑to‑day operations of the department.
Coordinates with other management staff in establishing quality controls to ensure quality of care. Acts as a drug consultant to support services of ancillary departments.
Coordinates necessary arrangements to obtain drugs needed in emergency situations.
Oversees pharmacy information systems and advance medication safety.
Collaborates with management peers to support all pharmacy operations and programs.
Sets and models the standard pharmacy practice and designs pharmacy programs to advance a comprehensive pharmacy practice model.
Leads and directs the clinical, quality, and business management aspects of the pharmacy. Integrates clinical pharmacy programs.
Establishes quality infrastructures within the department and advances pharmacy services throughout the organization.
Provides guidelines and instructions for the safe preparation, dilution, admixing, dispensing, and administration of medications, including appropriate labeling of expiration dates.
Participates in relevant continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.
Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.
Qualifications
Pharm.D. Degree
Florida Health Department Pharmacist license
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
