Job Overview The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) Level II provides professional, competent anesthesia care to a wide variety of patients, from pediatric to geriatric, requiring surgical, obstetrical, and other anesthesia services. Utilizing skills obtained through additional training, education, and/or experience, the CRNA II delivers care to patients with complex and unique anesthetic requirements. The role primarily works in community medical centers and provides coverage to other community medical centers, ambulatory surgical centers, hospital outpatient departments, and tertiary medical centers with multispecialty trauma services and multiple NORA (non‑operating room anesthesia) sites. The CRNA II may take “call from home” as part of the facility scheduling model and will float to other facilities as needed due to staffing needs. All team members practice within the full scope of their CRNA privileges.

Qualifications

Education:

BSN, MSN, DNP, and/or graduate diploma level certification required. Graduate from both an accredited school of nursing and a school of nurse anesthesia. Must be certified by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) as a CRNA and recognized by the state of practice as a CRNA. Must meet minimum continuing education requirements every four years of the NBCRNA.

Experience:

Previous experience is not necessary. Four to six week orientation period for new graduates (working with a preceptor) is required. Orientation period for experienced providers will depend on prior experience and clinical skills.

Licensure/Certification:

Current RN licensure in appropriate state, required.

Current CRNA endorsement in appropriate state, required.

NBCRNA certification, required.

ACLS certification within NH policy, required.

BLS certification within NH policy, required.

PALS certification within NH policy, required.

Additional Skills (required):

Extensive knowledge of current anesthetic agents, techniques, drugs, and equipment.

Knowledge and skills necessary to modify the anesthetic plan of care suitable to patient age.

Considerable ability to make independent decisions, sometimes under stress, and to maintain a professional demeanor with patients, coworkers, and physicians.
