The Invasive Cardiovascular "Cardiac Catheterization" Labs, also known as the Cardiac Cath Lab, are specialized invasive procedure rooms where diagnostic and interventional cardiac and peripheral‑vascular procedures are performed under fluoroscopy on patients from neonate through geriatrics. The Cardiovascular Technician (CVT) is an integral part of the invasive team and is responsible for the monitoring and safe use of all radiological equipment. In addition, the CVT is required to work in the OR 45‑Hybrid Suite to assist with duties outlined in this position description. The ideal incumbent will have experience or strong knowledge of hemodynamic monitoring equipment used for cardiovascular procedures in both the Cardiac Catheterization and OR settings. Duties include invasive hemodynamic monitoring and recording, pre/post‑procedure preparation including patient transport as required, digital imaging processing, assistance with inventory control and supply management/usage, and assistance in maintaining a safe work environment.
Must be able to be on‑call and work overtime, nights, and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
ACLS Certification within 3 months of hire
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
High School Diploma or GED or equivalent work experience or training
2 years recent Cath Lab Tech with scrub experience
Knowledge and ability to operate radiology (RT only) and auxiliary equipment for assigned modality to provide quality images
Knowledge of processor maintenance and imaging techniques
Must be able to adapt to new programs and equipment upgrades as the radiological field advances.
Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology
Key Responsibilities
80% – Assist with endovascular procedures in the Cardiac Cath Lab and OR Hybrid performed by Adult Cardiology, Pediatric Intervention, and Vascular Surgery
5% – Additional Responsibilities
5% – Participate in clinical research
5% – Maintain the quality and safety of the work environment
5% – Maintain professional responsibility, accountability
Department Overview The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at UC Davis Hospital consists of 5 procedure rooms and 1 hybrid OR. It provides care to all ages, performing diagnostic and complex coronary intervention, structural heart procedures and vascular interventions.
