Our client, a publicly traded manufacturing organization, is seeking a Plant Controller to join the team at their Streamwood location. The Plant Controller serves as the financial leader for the manufacturing facility, responsible for full plant-level accounting, financial reporting, cost control, and operational performance management. This role provides critical financial insight to plant leadership, ensures accurate reporting under U.S. GAAP, and enforces strong internal controls aligned with Sarbanes–Oxley (SOX) requirements.

The ideal candidate is a proactive business partner who understands manufacturing operations, delivers timely financial analysis, and drives accountability across the plant.

Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Business Partnership

Serve as the primary finance partner to the Plant Manager and operations leadership team.

Develop and manage annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and multi-year financial plans for the facility.

Provide real-time financial analysis to support production, supply chain, quality, engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Cost Accounting & Operations Support

Oversee standard cost development, cost rolls, BOM accuracy, and routings.

Monitor and analyze material usage, labor efficiency, overhead absorption, scrap, rework, yield, and variances.

Provide margin analysis, plant KPI dashboards, and performance reporting to improve profitability and operational efficiency.

Support cycle counts, physical inventories, and inventory valuation processes.

Accounting, Controls & Compliance

Lead all month-end, quarter-end, and year-end accounting activities for the plant, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and variance explanations.

Ensure full compliance with

SOX

internal control requirements, including documentation, testing readiness, and remediation of control gaps.

Maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR), ensuring accuracy and integrity of all plant financial data.

Partner with internal and external auditors during periodic audits and walkthroughs.

Reporting & Analysis

Prepare plant financial statements, operating reviews, variance analyses, and management reporting packages.

Analyze production variances, absorption, COGS drivers, and working capital trends.

Present financial results and operational insights to corporate finance and plant leadership teams.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with supply chain on material cost accuracy, procurement savings, supplier pricing, and inventory optimization.

Collaborate with manufacturing engineering and CI teams on capital projects, ROI models, cost savings tracking, and productivity initiatives.

Support corporate tax, treasury, and FP&A with plant-level data and analysis.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA preferred.

8+ years

of progressive accounting/finance experience, including at least 5 years within a manufacturing plant environment.

Strong understanding of

SOX requirements

and internal control frameworks.

Deep knowledge of cost accounting, inventory accounting, and U.S. GAAP.

Strong Excel and ERP system skills (e.g., SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, Infor, or equivalent).

Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.

Ability to work on-site daily and partner closely with plant operations.
