Job Description The HJF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting scientific programs that benefit armed forces and civilians alike. HJF’s support and administrative capabilities enable researchers and clinicians to focus on their science and accomplish research goals. The position is located at the John P. Murtha Cancer Center (MCC) within the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD.

Responsibilities U.S. citizenship required for this role.

Implement policies and procedures for front‑desk operations; answer phones, take and deliver messages, provide information, and resolve appointment problems.

Perform clerical, record‑keeping, and miscellaneous duties needed for patient care; assist with scheduling clinical‑trial patients.

Prepare reports and run recurring and special reports within automated systems for operational decisions.

Provide data for routine, recurring, and special data calls from leadership.

Receive all patients, determine disposition, select appropriate laboratory or imaging tests, and ensure correct test ordering.

Maintain the clinic patient appointment schedule for physicians.

Screen laboratory, x‑ray, and other test results to notify physicians of abnormal findings within an established timeframe; prepare and coordinate referrals.

Follow up on ordered tests and referrals to ensure results are received, recorded, and filed per quality assurance procedures.

Review incoming and outgoing correspondence for accuracy and amend as necessary.

Independently perform procedures to analyze and interpret human bone marrow aspirate and core samples as part of clinical research and patient care.

Perform additional duties as assigned or directed by supervisor, including required training.

Education and Experience

Associate’s degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred.

Minimum of 0–2 years’ experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge of clinic procedures, regulations, and patient record handling.

Understanding of facility services, medical terminology, and procedures common to each service for accurate reporting.

Familiarity with other departments for patient referral and coordination.

Proficiency in grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Excellent communication skills; ability to type at least 60 words per minute and use word processing software.

Experience in a clinical setting.

Ability to obtain and maintain a T3 secret clearance.

Physical Capabilities

Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Licenses and Certifications Certified phlebotomist is preferred.

Work Environment This position will take place primarily in a clinic, laboratory, or hospital setting.

Compensation

Hourly pay range: $25.00 – $28.53. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
