Benefits Information MCPS Official Job Description Summary Description: The primary responsibilities include screening, evaluating, and providing appropriate services to students with communication disorders (articulation, voice, language, fluency) that affect educational performance. Responsibilities also include consultation with teachers and parents and participation in Individualized Education Program (IEP) team meetings. Physical Demands:

Required to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to screen, evaluate, diagnose, and remediate communication disorders of students aged birth to twenty-one years; ability to develop and implement appropriate goals and objectives for each student and to utilize therapeutic materials effectively with individuals and small groups. Good communication and human relations skills are needed to implement consultative programs with teachers and parents and to work effectively as part of a team. Strong writing and organizational skills are essential for preparing clinical reports, developing IEPs and IFSPs, and maintaining comprehensive records. Education, Training, and Experience:

Masters or equivalent in speech-language pathology; coursework and demonstrated expertise in evaluation and therapeutic techniques for communication disorders; experience collaborating with related professionals; experience working with parents, including counseling and training; excellent oral and written communication skills. Alternatively, a combination of applicable education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills. Certificates and Licenses:

Speech pathologists hired after October 1, 2007, must hold the Maryland DHMH license or be eligible for a provisional license. Those hired before this date may hold MSDE certification or the Maryland DHMH license. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) is desirable or being CFY eligible.
