Primary Purpose Transmit & Substation (T&S) Standards are responsible for maintaining and developing new standards and engineering practices that ensure standardized, efficient, safe, and cost‑effective designs. This position focuses on Distribution and Transmission Relay Protection & Control Engineering Design Standards for voltages ranging from 765 kV to 4 kV. Responsibilities include reviewing, updating, and facilitating the development of T&S design standards, working closely with internal teams and external industry groups, providing technical expertise for strategic decisions, and mentoring others. Extended work hours may be required during storms or other emergencies.
PLEASE NOTE: This position may provide relocation for eligible applicants on a case‑to‑case basis.
Primary Duties
Serve as Subject Matter Expert for a specific class of T&S Standards, including Engineering Practices, Material Specifications, Construction Specifications, and Generic Design Drawings.
Act as the point of contact for technical questions related to material application and design standards.
Collaborate with vendors on material design improvements and implementation.
Work with Equipment Specialists, Relay & Protection, Substation Engineering, Transmission Engineering, Capacity Planning, Transmission Planning, TCE, field groups, and others to set the design and material standards and applications while ensuring safety, effectiveness, and constructability.
Lead multi‑discipline teams and complete assignments independently.
Provide recommendations to management and implement action plans to improve reliability.
Deliver detailed technical training, mentorship, peer review, and guidance to others.
Interface with industry groups such as IEEE, EPRI, EEI, MEA, etc., to introduce new design improvements and materials.
Investigate common failure modes and trends to support material or design standard improvements and analyze condition extent.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
Knowledge of engineering designs, principles, and practices.
Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
Problem‑solving approaches and engineering theory application.
Detailed knowledge of applicable standards, codes, methods, and practices unique to the area of expertise.
7+ years of professional engineering experience.
Ability to apply advanced engineering principles to identify and resolve complex issues.
Minimum of three related career experiences, or Lead Member of a recognized industry committee, or Professional Engineer’s License, advanced technical degree, MBA, or Project Management Certification.
Master’s degree in engineering reduces the required experience by one year.
PE license reduces the required experience by one year.
Mutually inclusive reduction of one year if both master’s degree and PE license are held.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Relay & Protection engineering designs, principles, and practices.
Licensed Professional Engineer.
Strong teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills at all management levels.
Proficient written and oral communication.
Working knowledge of applicable analysis software packages.
Ability to analyze industry‑wide trends and implement enhancements.
