GENERAL MANAGER I of FOOD SERVICE – National Academy of Sciences – Washington DC Position Title: MGR, GENERAL I

Salary: $90,000 - $108,000

Job Summary:

Working as a General Manager, you will maintain the account within budget while meeting client expectations. You will foster excellent relationships with employees, guests, clients, and other departments, promote professional growth and development of the team, and integrate the dining service department with broader operational plans.

Key Responsibilities

Participate in employee meetings, reviews, and training programs.

Manage in compliance with company policies, procedures, and local, state, and federal laws.

Maintain food cost while ensuring quality standards.

Establish and maintain good rapport with staff, client, guest, and other departments.

Manage financial acumen including financial reporting, P&L, budgets, and cash handling.

Analyze and create trends for financial data.

Manage purchasing and inventory controls.

Plan menus in consultation with chefs.

Be knowledgeable on HACCP controls and proper food storage and use.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent professional experience.

8‑10 years upscale food service experience, including 6 years at management level.

Personnel‑management experience: hiring, supervision, evaluation, succession planning.

Proven track record of achieving company goals in compliance with policies.

Excellent leadership, organizational, and detail‑oriented skills.

Supervisory, scheduling, training, and coaching skills.

Effective problem‑solving and conflict‑management skills.

Ability to multi‑task and stay focused amid interruptions.

Experience in food purchasing, costs, and inventory control.

Ability to create budgets, flash reports, financial targets, and forecasts.

Knowledge of cash handling procedures and reconciliation of multiple cash banks.

HACCP knowledge, proper storage, and food use.

Monitor compliance with health and fire regulations for food preparation and serving.

Exceptional business etiquette and client relations.

Time‑management and prioritization to meet deadlines.

Strong catering experience required.

Highest standards of personal integrity and ethical behavior.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

ServSafe or Department of Health certification a plus.
