Duties Description SBPC an Office of Mental Health (OMH) Joint Commission-accredited hospital, is currently recruiting board-eligible and board-certified Psychiatrists to join its Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team located in Brooklyn, NY. The ACT team is a mobile multi-disciplinary team that provides comprehensive, community-based psychiatric care. The goal of the ACT team is to maintain evidence-based and culturally sensitive care for the individual in their natural environment and reduce demand on emergency departments and inpatient hospital services. Shift is Monday – Friday with after-hours crisis response.
South Beach Psychiatric Center (SBPC) offers a comprehensive continuum of behavioral health services to adults with serious mental illness and children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbances living in Brooklyn and Staten Island. SBPC is a teaching site for psychiatry residents from Richmond University Medical Center and New York University.
SBPC provides recovery-oriented and patient-centered behavioral health treatment to 3,500 individuals. Their inpatient facility provides care to approximately 335 patients including units devoted to children and adolescents and medically complex patients. SBPC’s network of community services is comprised of Transitional Living Residences, outpatient clinics in Brooklyn and Staten Island, Children and Youth Day Treatment, MIT and ACT teams and specialized treatment programs serving LGBTQ+ clients and Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients.
As a Psychiatrist on the Bensonhurst ACT Team, you will:
Meet in-person with ACT Team patients on a monthly basis.
Participate in daily team meetings, treatment team meetings, and medical staff meetings.
Collaborate with Team Leader to monitor treatment and provide clinical supervision.
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments.
Create treatment plans and monitor medication administration.
Educate staff and patients on psychiatric medications, their side effects, and health-related conditions.
Complete all required documentation in accordance with OMH/ACT standards.
Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations and training/licensure requirements.
Minimum Qualifications Psychiatrist 1: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and completion of a training program in psychiatry approved by the ABPN.
Psychiatrist 2: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and certification in psychiatry approved by the ABPN.
Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (HELPS) program if they have a license and current registration to practice medicine in New York State AND for Psychiatrist 1 have completed a training program in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) OR for Psychiatrist 2 have certification in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).

Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

This position is eligible for a Downstate adjustment of $4,000.

If you are appointed and you lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.
License and Certification: Loss of license or limited permit to practice medicine in New York State or board certification, if required, may result in removal from your position.
