Senior Director, Global Program Leader – Oncology, Solid Tumors

Join us as a Senior Director at Takeda, located in the Cambridge office, focused on leading global oncology programs for solid tumors. This role plays a pivotal part in realizing Takeda’s mission to deliver better health to patients worldwide.

Job Description As a seasoned leader, the Global Program Leader (GPL) is responsible for defining asset strategy and driving all development and LCM projects associated with a drug asset from discovery to market launch. The GPL ensures that each program aligns with Takeda’s core values of Patient‑Trust‑Reputation‑Business and maximizes asset value across regulatory, commercial, and patient‑access dimensions.

Responsibilities

Guide program strategy, vision, goals, and long‑term plans while aligning cross‑functional, cross‑divisional project goals with Takeda business needs.

Lead multiple Global Programs, typically 3‑5 projects spanning early research to launch and long‑term commercial and life‑cycle management.

Act as the single leader of the cross‑functional Global Program Team (GPT), ensuring that all sub‑team deliverables meet defined scope, budget, and timelines with a focus on value maximization.

Partner with the Global Program Manager (GPM) for budgeting, variance control, and financial governance.

Report program progress, pivotal risks, and strategic changes to senior leadership and governance committees.

Drive regulatory approvals and global patient access while engaging internal and external stakeholders.

Champion organizational reputation, facilitating collaboration across functions to strengthen Takeda’s position in the market.

Accountabilities

Program Strategy, Activity Planning and Execution: Set program vision, prioritize, and deliver all phases from discovery to commercialization.

Fiscal Responsibility: Monitor and control budgets, manage variances, and ensure alignment with Takeda financial objectives.

Resource & Issue Management: Allocate resources, identify and mitigate risks, and maintain proactive communication with senior executives.

Change Management: Adapt plans to evolving market dynamics and maintain systems to track KPIs, trends, and continuous improvement.

Matrix Team Management: Provide strategic and tactical leadership to GPT members, ensuring accountability and stakeholder engagement.

Required Qualifications

Advanced scientific degree (MD, PhD, PharmD) or MBA.

Minimum of 10 years in the pharmaceutical industry with deep knowledge of R&D and commercial operations.

Minimum of 8 years of interdisciplinary global experience handling complex projects, strategy, execution, and matrix team leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in science or business preferred.

Broad business/enterprise orientation.

Demonstrated track record of managing multiple NME global approvals.

Knowledge and Skills

Passionate about developing future leaders.

Project Management Professional certification from PMI desirable.

Travel Requirements Willingness to travel to meetings or client sites including overnight trips; approximately 20‑25% travel, with occasional international travel.
