Carnegie Mellon University

Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is a private, global research university that stands among the world’s most renowned education institutions. With ground‑breaking brain science, big data, and a culture that invents the future, CMU invites you to join a community that challenges curiosity to deliver work that matters.

The Integrated Innovation Institute at CMU breaks down silos that impede innovation by uniting engineering, design, and business. This TA position supports the instructor of CMU’s Process and Project Management course for the Spring 2026 semester. Previous students of the course are preferred; recent industry experience in software development and project management (minimum 4 years) is also considered. The role is hourly paid, and current students and alumni are encouraged to apply.

Core Responsibilities

Assist the instructor in providing an effective learning experience for students enrolled in the course.

Attend all class meetings for one section each week, for the full duration of the semester.

Manage course activity online in Canvas, including supervising student submissions and ensuring appropriate structure, format, and best practices are followed in all submitted deliverables.

Review student drafts and final assignments, providing actionable, constructive feedback, notes, scores, and corrections as appropriate.

Hold office hours for 90 minutes per week to assist students as needed.

Clarify instructions for assignments to students, as needed, through office hours, email, or Canvas discussion forums.

Meet with students and teams, as requested by the instructor, for additional explanation and guidance on the assigned work.

The TA should have strong written and verbal communication skills in English, an interest in reflective team processes, and familiarity with Google Suite tools. An eye for detail, respectful punctuality, and an interest in teaching are also desirable.

Adaptability, excellence, and passion are vital qualities at CMU. We seek a team member who can effectively interact with a varied population of internal and external partners at a high level of integrity, shares our values, and supports the university’s mission.
