The Assistant Director of Study Abroad is responsible for promoting and administering UM’s study abroad and exchange programs.
This position will manage faculty-led and exchange programs, facilitate the application process for outbound and incoming students, assist in the development of new programs and initiatives, assist with marketing efforts, and serve as a liaison to faculty, student services offices, and academic departments at the University.
The assistant director is also responsible for organizing events such as faculty orientations, student orientations, workshops, information sessions, and fairs.**Salary range:**$55,000 - $56,000**Duties will include:*** Conduct preliminary interviews with interested students; work with students to determine the most appropriate program(s).* Be familiar with all Study Abroad programs in order to assist students in selecting a program.* Advise, assist, and manage students going to and coming from assigned exchange programs (inquiries, application, acceptance/admission, housing, orientation, grades/transcripts, re-entry to UM/home institution, post-program issues, etc).* Serve as intermediary for student between UM departments and overseas institution.* Advise students going on non-UM programs.* Manage assigned exchange programs and develop/maintain relationships with overseas partners.* Work with overseas counterparts from assigned exchange programs to arrange courses and housing for both inbound and outbound exchange students.* Maintain correspondence with students, parents, overseas partners.* Maintain student files and database.* Research and provide information and suggestions for program information booklets (for assigned Study Abroad programs).
Update program information booklets.* Evaluate, maintain, and update existing agreements and prepare new agreements.* Be familiar with immigration regulations affecting assigned countries.* Assist in all areas when others are traveling.* Participate in site visits and attend conferences for professional development.* Use independent discretion to verify credentials of overseas universities for students going abroad on non-UM programs and to verify credentials of U.S. universities that provide transcripts for students going abroad on non-UM programs.* Send and update student lists sent to other campus units for clearance of students studying abroad.* Plan and organize general pre-departure orientations for fall, spring, and summer terms.* Plan and organize orientation program for new exchange students to UM for fall and spring terms.* Update study abroad scholarship information.* Maintain Course and Curriculum for all *SAP* courses.* Manage the assigned faculty-led programs.* Reconciliation of program costs once trips are complete.* Organize and participate in general advising sessions.* Assist in the coordination and delivery of the Study Abroad fairs.* Visit classes/organizations/residence halls, etc. to promote study abroad.* Represent Study Abroad in UM Office of Admission programs and other units’ open houses/fairs.* Suggest, plan and carry out appropriate vehicles to promote study abroad on campus (newsletter, *Hurricane* articles, etc.).* Coordinate and deliver information sessions/orientations for the development of new faculty-led programs.* Work with UM faculty to develop new courses.* Assist faculty in coordinating plans for course.* Develop budget for course with faculty input.
Conduct marketing of programs and courses.* Register students and monitor registrations and payments.* Process travel advances and payments.* Reconcile revenue and expenses for UM Courses Abroad budgets.* Create and submit reimbursements for faculty.* Set up the special pricing for all faculty-led programs.* Initiate faculty payroll.* Ensure that all students and faculty are aware of UM procedures concerning safety and liability issues and have completed necessary forms prior to travel.* Conduct pre-departure orientations.* Participate in Course Abroad workshops.* Other duties as assigned by the supervisor**Qualifications*** Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required.
