Summary This position will begin as a contract role with the potential to transition into a permanent position with JH Kelly. The Junior Buyer plays a critical support role in the procurement process for tools, equipment, and materials used in daily operations. This entry-level position is designed for someone early in their supply chain career who is eager to learn and contribute. The Junior Buyer assists in vendor setup, purchase order processing, delivery tracking, and resolution of order issues. This role collaborates closely with the buying team, warehouse, field teams, accounting, and vendors to ensure timely and accurate purchasing activity. Ideal candidates are organized, detail-oriented, and proactive communicators with a desire to grow within a fast-paced warehouse and logistics environment.

Salary Range $20-$25 per hour (DOE), FLSA non-exempt (OT eligible).

Key Responsibilities

Assist in setting up new vendors, ensuring accurate account and contact information, payment terms, and classifications.

Support Buyers by gathering necessary information for placing orders, such as specifications, quantities, and pricing.

Issue and track purchase orders for tools, materials, and supplies, ensuring accuracy and documentation completeness.

Communicate delivery timelines and updates to warehouse, field staff, and operations teams.

Monitor deliveries to ensure timely arrival; follow up with vendors on backorders, shortages, or shipment issues.

Support invoice matching and assist Accounts Payable in resolving PO discrepancies.

Assist with vendor quote tracking and price comparisons.

Maintain up-to-date procurement records, logs, and status reports.

Help address product returns, replacements, or warranty issues in coordination with vendors.

Contribute to improving vendor performance and delivery consistency.

Build strong working relationships with warehouse team members and field technicians.

Provide general administrative support to the Supply Chain and Buying team.

Take initiative on tasks that improve purchasing efficiency or vendor service.

Relationships

Maintain proactive and positive relationships within the crafts, including shop and field craft personnel.

Foster positive relationships with customer representatives, vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, safety, CAD/BIM, accounting, IT, and all project teams.

Experience / Qualifications

An associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred in Business, Supply Chain, or related experience.

Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in a purchasing, warehouse, or administrative support role.

Preferred: Experience supporting buyers or procurement activities.

Preferred: Familiarity with construction tools, parts, or material categories.

Preferred: Experience with purchase orders, shipping paperwork, or vendor coordination.

Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook.

Necessary Skills

Physical Requirements This office-based role requires the ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer, performing repetitive tasks such as typing and using a mouse. Candidates must have good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for handling office equipment and documents weighing up to 25 pounds. Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching are necessary, including movement through warehouse spaces as needed.
